Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Dear authors,

The comments and suggestions are embedded within the attached document. I think my biggest challenge was understanding the need to discretize the system and the benefits of doing so over the continuous model? What are you looking for to improve or to add while doing so?

Also, it would be greatly beneficial to have an actual model (physical system) to validate the model instead of running simulation analysis. Please consider this in your near future.

The major comments are as follows.

(1)   What is the novelty of your proposed analysis model? You had better to explain the features and the differences between the proposed model and the previous model more clearly in the introduction.

(2)   What is the beneficial effect of your proposed model which is considering the attraction force?

The minor comment is as follows.

(3)   The point of usefulness and validity of your analysis model should be explained more clearly in the chapter 4 of the simulation results.

Reviewer 3 Report

The paper is focused on the fifth-order dynamic continuous model of linear induction motor (LIM), with considering attraction force. Also, a comparison of continuous and discrete time model’s behavior was shown graphically in order to validate the discrete time model. The proposed method’s validity and evaluation for the dynamic continuous model are done.

The paper topic is interesting, but the paper results have no illustration of experimental or simulation results for practicing engineers or enrich in engineering judgement and insight. Therefore, the authors are recommended to add on their illustration of experimental results and revise their articles in order to enhance the paper’s contribution. This paper is suggested to reject as below:

1. Overall it is difficult to work out what the significance is in this work, I think this needs to be explained more clearly by the authors. Discrete and Continuous Model of Three-Phase Linear Induction Motors are well established so the authors need to emphasize why this work is important.

2. In the intro you should explain what problem you are trying to investigate or solve. Why are they used? this should be explained

3. Inadequate results failed to show the proposed method’s validity and evaluation for being accomplished the claimed aims in the paper.

     4. There are some hard-to-understand sentences and grammatical mistakes in the paper.

5. Be consistent with the referencing style of energies Journal across the document.

On the whole, the contribution of this paper over the existing knowledge is very marginal.

Reviewer 4 Report

In this manuscript, the authors presented a dynamic continuous model of the fifth-order linear induction motor without considering end effect and suction in the D-Q static reference frame. Although this manuscript perfectly proposed a new model modified by traditional three-phase, it has some flaws as shown below, which need to be improved:

1) In Introduction part, line 43-49, the description of advantages of LIMs is not concert, please add more contents to make it clearer. You could get some ideas from this article: Liu G, Li M, Zhou B, Chen Y, Liao S*. General indicator for techno-economic assessment of renewable energy resources[J]. Energy Conversion & Management, 2018, 156:416-426.

2) In Construction Aspects of Linear Induction Motors LIMs part, Fig 1 in line 101 need to be modified. Please use arrowheads to represent each notes to keep the format consistent.

3) In Results and Analysis part, please adjust the clarity and pattern of Fig 2 in line 232. Meanwhile, this part is also lack of analysis contents, so the reviewer suggests the authors to make a more detailed explain of Fig.2.

4) The abbreviations of “LIMs” caused misread. It should be used in full name at the first time, then used in abbreviation later on.

5)  In the Reference part, the format of some dates are inconsistent with others. This requires the authors to correct them in strict accordance with journal submission guidelines.

Round 2

Reviewer 2 Report

It is better to explain more clearly the problems which are included in the physical system of Figure 1.

REPLY: We thank the reviewer for its recommendations, which are very relevant.

Q1: It is better to explain more clearly the problems which are included in the physical system of Figure 1.

REPLY: The introduction has been rewritten according to the reviewer's recommendations. Figure 1 and the reason for implementing the physical system as a prototype have also been explained in depth.

Reviewer 3 Report

The reviewer accepts the effort of the authors for the improvement of the paper, but some answers cannot be acceptable.

Q1: It is very confused that Fig.1 is the authors’ work or from other literatures. Why did the authors select this kind of physical system implemented to obtain the LIM model parameters? Also, Fig.1 is not good picture quality on the display, please make it more clearly.

Q2: There are still few hard-to-understand sentences and grammatical mistakes in the paper. For Example: “A fifth-order dynamic continuous model of linear induction motor (LIM), without considering end effects and considering attraction force, that it is necessary for the dynamic analysis of the mechanically loaded linear induction motor.”???

REPLY: Figure 1 is part of the development of the work, and was already published by the authors in a previous work [25] that included the determination of parameters of the LIM and the reasons for selecting this prototype. Thus, the prototype implemented for this work is the same as the one cited. Also, the quality of the figure has been improved.

REPLY: We have improved the document writing and we have corrected the grammatical mistakes.

Round 3

Reviewer 3 Report

The paper has reinforced on their illustration of results and revised their articles to enhance the paper’s contribution. The paper now seems more scientific and can give some useful directions for the other researcher who will do the similar experiment and investigation. The paper illustrations are better than before. Therefore, I agree the paper to be published in the journal.
