Entropy, Volume 21, Issue 6

2019 June - 85 articles

Cover Story: The paper established a thermodynamic-like phenomenon related to the (re)programmability of computer programs as discrete dynamical systems subject to the laws of information and algorithmic probability. The lack of symmetry in the operation of rewiring networks seen as computer programs, with regards to algorithmic randomness, indicates a natural direction for digital thermodynamics. After demonstrating that the set of maximum entropy graphs is not the same as the set of maximum algorithmically complex graphs, the paper introduces a principle akin to maximum entropy but based on algorithmic complexity. The principle of maximum algorithmic randomness (MAR) can, therefore, be viewed as a refinement of Maxent, as it is a proper subset of algorithmically random graphs, and also possesses the highest entropy.
