This paper presents a scientometric review that provides a quantitative perspective on the evolution of Automation in Construction Journal (AICJ) research, emphasizing its developmental paths and emerging trends. The study aims to analyze the journal’s growth and citation impact over time. It also seeks to identify the most influential publications and the cooperation patterns among key contributors. Furthermore, the study explores the journal’s primary research themes and their evolution. Accordingly, 4084 articles were identified using the Web of Science (WoS) database and subjected to a multistep analysis using VOsviewer version 1.6.18 and Biblioshiny as software tools. First, the growth and citation of the publications over time are inspected and evaluated, in addition to ranking the most influential documents. Second, the co-authorship analysis method is applied to visualize the cooperation patterns between countries, organizations, and authors. Finally, the publications are analyzed using keyword co-occurrence and keyword thematic evolution analyses, revealing five major research clusters: (i) foundational optimization, (ii) deep learning and computer vision, (iii) building information modeling, (iv) 3D printing and robotics, and (v) machine learning. Additionally, the analysis reveals significant growth in publications (54.5%) and citations (78.0%) from 2018 to 2023, indicating the journal’s increasing global influence. This period also highlights the accelerated adoption of digitalization (e.g., BIM, computational design), increased integration of AI and machine learning for automation and predictive analytics, and rapid growth of robotics and 3D printing, driving sustainable and innovative construction practices. The paper’s findings can help readers and researchers gain a thorough understanding of the AICJ’s published work, aid research groups in planning and optimizing their research efforts, and inform editorial boards on the most promising areas in the existing body of knowledge for further investigation and development. Periodic visual inspections are currently conducted to maintain the condition of railway bridges. These inspections rely on direct visual assessments by human inspectors, often requiring specialized equipment such as aerial ladders. However, this method is not only time-consuming and costly but also involves significant safety risks. Therefore, there is a growing need for a more efficient and reliable alternative to traditional visual inspections of railway bridges. In this study, we evaluated and compared the performance of damage detection using U-Net-based deep learning models on images captured by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The target damage types include cracks, concrete spalling and delamination, water leakage, exposed reinforcement, and paint peeling. To enable multi-class segmentation, the U-Net model was trained using three different loss functions: Cross-Entropy Loss, Focal Loss, and Intersection over Union (IoU) Loss. We compared these methods to determine their ability to distinguish actual structural damage from environmental factors and surface contamination, particularly under real-world site conditions. The results showed that the U-Net model trained with IoU Loss outperformed the others in terms of detection accuracy. When applied to field inspection scenarios, this approach demonstrates strong potential for objective and precise damage detection. Furthermore, the use of UAVs in the inspection process is expected to significantly reduce both time and cost in railway infrastructure maintenance. Future research will focus on extending the detection capabilities to additional damage types such as efflorescence and corrosion, aiming to ultimately replace manual visual inspections of railway bridge surfaces with deep-learning-based methods. Discriminative Capacity of Visceral Adiposity and Triglyceride Glucose-Waist Circumference Indices for Metabolic Syndrome in Spanish Adolescents: A Cross-Sectional Study

Background/Objectives: Adolescence is a critical period for the early detection of metabolic syndrome (MetS), a condition that increases the risk of cardiometabolic diseases in adulthood. Timely identification of at-risk adolescents enables targeted prevention strategies. This study aimed to analyze the discriminative capacity and accuracy of six biochemical and/or anthropometric indices related to lipid metabolism and adiposity for the early detection of MetS in a sample of Spanish adolescents. Methods: A cross-sectional study carried out according to the STROBE guidelines. A sample of 981 adolescents aged 11–16 years old were randomly recruited from schools in Southeastern Spain. The presence or absence of MetS was determined according to the International Diabetes Federation criteria. The following biochemical and/or anthropometric indices were evaluated: triglyceride glucose index, visceral adiposity index, logarithm children’s lipid accumulation product, triglyceride glucose-body mass index, triglyceride glucose-waist circumference, and triglyceride glucose-waist-to-hip ratio. Results: The triglyceride glucose-waist-to-hip ratio and triglyceride glucose-body mass index parameters were the strongest indicators associated with MetS in boys and girls, respectively, after adjusting for several factors. Moreover, all evaluated indices showed optimal AUC values, with the visceral adiposity index and triglyceride glucose-waist circumference index exhibiting the highest discriminative capacity in both genders. Conclusions: The evaluated biochemical and anthropometric indices—particularly visceral adiposity index and triglyceride-glucose-waist circumference—show promise as accessible biomarkers for identifying adolescents at metabolic risk. These indices may serve as practical tools in preventive health strategies aimed at improving metabolic health by screening adolescents at risk of MetS, thereby helping to reduce the future burden of non-communicable diseases. Introduction: A validated clinical decision tool predictive of favorable functional outcomes following endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) remains elusive. We performed a retrospective case series of patients at our regional Comprehensive Stroke Center, over a four-year period, who have undergone EVT to elucidate patient characteristics and factors associated with a favorable functional outcome after EVT. Methods: We reviewed all cases of EVT at our institution between February 2018 and February 2022 in the extended time window from 6–24 h. Demographic, clinical, imaging, and procedure co-variates were included. A favorable clinical outcome was defined as a modified Rankin scale of 0–2. We included patients with M1 or internal carotid artery occlusion treated with EVT within 6–24 h after symptom onset. We used a univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis to identify patient factors associated with a favorable clinical outcome at 90 days. Results: Our study included evaluation of 121 patients who underwent EVT at our comprehensive stroke center. Our analysis demonstrates that a higher recanalization score based on the modified Thrombolysis In Cerebral Infarction (mTICI) scale (2B-3) was a strong indicator of a favorable outcome (OR 7.33; CI 2.06–26.07; p = 0.0021). Our data also showed that a higher baseline National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score (p = 0.0095) and the presence of pre-existing hypertension (p = 0.0035) may also be predictors of an unfavorable outcome (mRS > 2) per our multivariate analysis. Conclusion: Patients without pre-existing hypertension had more favorable outcomes following EVT in the expanded time window. This is consistent with other multicenter data in the expanded time window that demonstrates greater odds of a poor outcome with elevated pre-, peri-, and post-endovascular-treatment blood pressure. Our data also demonstrate that the mTICI score is a strong predictor of favorable outcome, even after controlling for other variables. A lower baseline NIHSS at the time of thrombectomy may also indicate a favorable outcome. Furthermore, the presence of clinical or radiographic mismatch based on the Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography Score (ASPECTS) and NIHSS per DAWN and DEFUSE-3 criteria did not emerge as a predictor of favorable outcome, which is congruent with recent randomized controlled trials and meta-analyses. Based on the panel data of daily meteorological stations and winter wheat yield in Henan Province from 2000 to 2023, this study comprehensively used the Mann–Kendall trend test, wavelet coherence analysis (WTC), and other methods to reveal the temporal and spatial evolution of extreme precipitation and its multi-scale stress mechanism on grain yield. The results showed the following: (1) Extreme precipitation showed the characteristics of ‘frequent fluctuation-gentle trend-strong spatial heterogeneity’, and the maximum daily precipitation in spring (RX1DAY) showed a significant uplift. The increase in rainstorm events (R95p/R99p) in the southern region during the summer is particularly prominent; at the same time, the number of consecutive drought days (CDDs > 15 d) in the middle of autumn was significantly prolonged. It was also found that 2010 is a significant mutation node. Since then, the synergistic effect of ‘increasing drought days–increasing rainstorm frequency’ has begun to appear, and the short-period coherence of super-strong precipitation (R99p) has risen to more than 0.8. (2) The spatial pattern of winter wheat in Henan is characterized by the three-level differentiation of ‘stable core area, sensitive transition zone and shrinking suburban area’, and the stability of winter wheat has improved but there are still local risks. (3) There is a multi-scale stress mechanism of extreme precipitation on winter wheat yield. The long-period (4–8 years) drought and flood events drive the system risk through a 1–2-year lag effect (short-period (0.5–2 years) medium rainstorm intensity directly impacted the production system). This study proposes a ‘sub-scale governance’ strategy, using a 1–2-year lag window to establish a rainstorm warning mechanism, and optimizing drainage facilities for high-risk areas of floods in the south to improve the climate resilience of the agricultural system against the background of climate change. A novel efficient method to evaluate time-periodic flows is applied to turbomachinery configurations in this paper (PSpTM). The technique reduces the overall computational cost of unsteady CFD calculations relative to conventional implicit approaches. The method is based on a pseudo-spectral definition of the time derivative rearranged in a time-marching fashion. The key advantage of this novel formulation compared with classical harmonic methods is that it requires minor modifications in the CFD solver structure. The method was implemented into an existing unstructured edge-based, second-order, compressible RANS solver. To benchmark the method, a well-established implicit time scheme based on a second-order backward implicit approach (BDF2) is used. Sample unsteady turbomachinery configurations are used to determine the accuracy and efficiency of the method. The accuracy of the solution is highly linked to the number of harmonics prescribed for the solution. An adequate level of accuracy was obtained while retaining a reduced number of harmonics, with approximately twice the number of harmonics of the unsteady perturbation. Notable savings in computational cost were observed when the PSpTM method was used with speed-up factors of between 2 and 10 with respect to the BDF2, depending on the case. However, the PSpTM method exhibits a poor periodic convergence rate, leaving room for further improvements in efficiency. However, even in its current form and with the current understanding, the method has a remarkable performance. Full article

In this study, the impact of moderate and high CO2 and O2 levels was compared to low and moderate gas combinations during prolonged storage on the quality of Regina sweet cherries harvested in different maturity stages, particularly in terms of decreasing internal browning. Fruits were harvested in two different maturity stages (Light and Dark Mahogany skin color) and stored in CA of 15% CO2 + 10% O2; 10% CO2 + 10% O2; 10% CO2 + 5% O2; 5% CO2 + 5% O2 and MA of 4 to 5% CO2 + 16 to 17% O2 for 30 and 40 days at 0 °C and 90% RH, followed by a marketing period. After the storage, both maturity stages significantly reduced internal browning, decay, and visual quality losses in CA with 10–15% CO2 and 10% O2. In addition, it preserved luminosity, total soluble solids (TSSs), titratable acidity (TA), and bioactive compounds such as anthocyanins and phenols. This treatment also maintained the visual appearance of the sweet cherries, favoring their market acceptance. At the same time, the light red fruits showed a better general quality compared to darker color after the storage. In conclusion, a controlled atmosphere with optimized CO2 and O2 concentrations, together with harvesting with a Light Mahogany external color, represents an effective strategy to extend the shelf life of Regina sweet cherries up to 40 days plus the marketing period, maintaining their physical and sensory quality for export markets. Background/Objectives: Mumps remains a relevant vaccine-preventable disease globally, especially in settings where immunization coverage fluctuates or vaccine-induced immunity wanes. This study aimed to assess long-term trends in mumps incidence, vaccination coverage, clinical outcomes, and demographic characteristics in the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina (AP Vojvodina), Serbia, over a 47-year period. Methods: We conducted a retrospective observational study using surveillance data from the Institute of Public Health of Vojvodina. Analyses included annual mumps incidence rates (1978–2024), coverage with mumps-containing vaccines (MuCVs; 1986–2024), monthly case counts, and individual-level case data for the 1997–2024 period. Variables analyzed included age, month of notification, gender, vaccination status, presence of clinical complications, and the method used for case confirmation. Results: Following the introduction of MuCV in 1986, the mumps incidence markedly declined, with limited resurgences in 2000, 2009, and 2012. Between 1997 and 2024, a total of 1358 cases were reported, with 62.7% occurring in males. Over time, the age distribution shifted, with adolescents and young adults being increasingly affected during the later (2011–2024) observed period. In 2012, the highest age-specific incidence was observed among individuals aged 10–19 and 20–39 years (49.1 and 45.5 per 100,000, respectively). Vaccination coverage for both MuCV doses was suboptimal in several years. The proportion of unvaccinated cases decreased over time, while the proportion with unknown vaccination status increased. Mumps-related complications—such as orchitis, pancreatitis, and meningitis—were rare and predominantly affected unvaccinated individuals: 84.2% of orchitis, 40.0% of pancreatitis, and all meningitis cases. Only two pancreatitis cases (40.0%) were reported after one MMR dose, while fully vaccinated individuals (two doses) had one orchitis case (5.3%) and no other complications. Laboratory confirmation was applied more consistently from 2009 onward, with 49.6% of cases confirmed that year (58 out of 117), and, in several years after 2020, only laboratory-confirmed cases were reported, indicating improved diagnostic capacity. Conclusions: Despite substantial progress in controlling mumps, gaps in vaccine coverage, waning immunity, and incomplete vaccination records continue to pose a risk for mumps transmission. Strengthening routine immunization, ensuring high two-dose MuCV coverage, improving vaccination record keeping, and enhancing laboratory-based case confirmation are critical. Consideration should be given to booster doses in high-risk populations and to conducting a seroepidemiological study to estimate the susceptible population for mumps in AP Vojvodina. Full article

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the mean age of eruption of permanent teeth and their clinical emergence sequence in a longitudinal sample of children from a multi-ethnic urban population. Methods: A total of 854 children (413 females and 441 males), aged between 4 and 13 years, were examined annually for a minimum of 4 consecutive years, as part of their annual dental screening appointment. The presence of permanent teeth was recorded at each examination. Mean and median ages, with standard deviations, of individual tooth eruption were calculated, in addition to the eruption sequence, and the analysis of the data was performed using the lognormal distribution model. Regarding the error of the method, two examiners reviewed all relevant dental screening forms, and any discrepancies were resolved through consultation with the senior author. Results: The sequence of permanent tooth eruption followed a consistent pattern across sexes, with distinct differences between the maxillary and mandibular arches. In the maxilla, eruption began with the first molar, while in the mandible, it started with the central incisor. Mandibular teeth generally erupted earlier than maxillary teeth, with girls experiencing earlier eruption than boys, with some exceptions, and prolonged eruption periods. No statistically significant differences were found in the timing of eruption between contralateral homologous teeth. Conclusions: Based on the present data, the observed sequence of tooth eruption in a multi-ethnic urban population showed similar patterns across sexes. Mandibular teeth generally erupt earlier than maxillary teeth, with girls experiencing earlier eruption than boys. Full article

Background: Patients in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) often develop non-thyroidal illness syndrome. Potentially, thyroid hormones may be removed during continuous veno-venous hemodiafiltration (CVVHDF), as their molecular size is smaller than the filter pores’ cutoff. The study’s main aim was to assess whether the serum concentration of thyroid hormones changes over time during CVVHDF. Methods: This was a prospective observational trial that included 30 patients treated in an ICU. Blood samples were collected before initiation of CVVHDF and at 1, 2, 3, 6, 9 and 12 days after. The last sample was collected three days after CVVHDF withdrawal. Thyroid function was evaluated by determining the serum concentration of TSH, thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH), free triiodothyronine (fT3), free thyroxine (fT4), total triiodothyronine (tT3), total thyroxine (tT4) and reverse triiodothyronine (rT3). We additionally calculated the total activity of peripheral deiodinases (GD) using a mathematical model. Results: TRH and TSH levels remained mostly within normal ranges. fT4 and tT4 were in normal range or slightly below. In contrast, fT3 and tT3 were undetectably low in most patients throughout. Reverse T3 levels remained within normal limits. There were no statistically significant changes in any thyroid hormone levels over the CVVHDF treatment period. The calculated peripheral GD activity was lower than normal, but importantly, it did not change significantly over time. Conclusions: Thyroid hormones are not lost due to hemodiafiltration. Decreased deiodinases activity is responsible for alterations in serum concentrations of thyroid hormones in patients during CVVHDF. Full article

This paper presents a novel four-dimensional (4D) chaotic system exhibiting parametric symmetry breaking and multistability. Through equilibrium stability analysis, attractor reconstruction, Lyapunov Exponent spectra (LEs), and bifurcation diagrams, we reveal a continuous transition from symmetric period attractors to asymmetric chaotic states and rich dynamical behaviors. Additionally, considering the potential of this system in practical applications, a feedback control simulation circuit is designed and implemented to ensure its stability and effectiveness under real-world conditions. Finally, among various control strategies, this paper proposes an innovative Fixed-Time Sliding Mode Synchronization (FTSMS) strategy, determines its synchronization convergence time, and provides an important theoretical foundation for the practical application of the system. This study evaluated the effects of different storage conditions, varying in light exposure, relative humidity (RH), and packaging materials, on the physicochemical stability of Lobosphaera sp. biomass, the retention of bioactive compounds, and the bioactivity of its extracts. Under light and 75% RH, the biomass absorbed moisture over time, reaching 0.779 ± 0.003 g/g dry weight (DW) after three months. This was accompanied by a decline in luminosity, chroma, and hue values. In contrast, samples stored under other conditions showed minimal changes, indicating that high humidity, combined with light exposure, compromises biomass stability. Packaging in metalized polyethylene terephthalate (PETmet/PE) effectively preserved the water content, color, and carotenoid levels during a two-month storage period. Bioactive compounds extracted via hydroethanolic ultrasound-assisted extraction yielded 15.48 ± 1.35% DW. Total phenolic content (TPC) of the extracts declined over time in both PETmet/PE and low-density polyethylene (LDPE) packaging, though the decrease was less pronounced in PETmet/PE. Antioxidant activity, assessed via the ABTS assay, remained stable, regardless of storage duration or packaging. Antimicrobial activity of the extract decreased over time but remained more effective against Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, and Listeria monocytogenes), with PETmet/PE packaging better preserving antimicrobial efficacy than LDPE. These findings underscore the importance of optimized storage conditions and packaging for maintaining the quality and bioactivity of Lobosphaera sp. biomass and its extracts. Full article

Macroeconomic Effects of Oil Price Shocks in the Context of Geopolitical Events: Evidence from Selected European Countries

For a long time, the explanation of the various determinants of oil price fluctuations and their impact on economic activity has been based on the supply and demand mechanism. However, with various volatile changes in the international situation in recent years, such as threats to public health and an increase in regional conflicts, special attention has been paid to the geopolitical context as an additional driver of oil price fluctuations. This study examines the relationship between oil price changes and GDP growth and other macroeconomic variables from the perspective of the vulnerability of oil-importing and oil-exporting countries to unexpected oil price shocks, driven by tense geopolitical events, in three European countries (Norway, Germany, and Poland). We apply the Structural Vector Autoregressive (SVAR) model and orthogonalized impulse response functions, based on quarterly data, in regard to two samples: the first spans 1995Q1–2019Q4 (pre-2020 sample), with relatively gradual changes in oil prices, and the second spans 1995Q1–2024Q2 (whole sample), with sudden fluctuations in oil prices due to geopolitical developments. A key finding of this research is that vulnerability to unpredictable oil price shocks related to geopolitical tensions is higher than in regard to expected gradual changes in oil prices, both in oil-importing and oil-exporting countries. Different causality patterns and stronger responses in regard to GDP growth during the period, including in regard to tense geopolitical events in comparison to the pre-2020 sample, lead to the belief that economies are not more resilient to oil price shocks as has been suggested by some studies, which referred to periods that were not driven by geopolitical events. Our research also suggests that countries implementing policies to reduce oil dependency and promote investment in alternative energy sources are better equipped to mitigate the adverse effects of oil price shocks. Motivation remains a central concern in second language (L2) and English as a foreign language (EFL) education, yet its underlying mechanisms are insufficiently understood. This study employs the theory of Directed Motivational Currents (DMCs) to explore periods of intense, sustained L2 motivation among Chinese adolescent EFL learners across secondary and tertiary levels. Through in-depth interviews with ten participants, this research identified the conditions (e.g., collaborative peer dynamics, vivid goal visualization) that triggered their DMC experiences. The data also highlighted how facilitative elements—such as clear starting points, personalized goal alignment, behavioral routines, and timely feedback—played a crucial role in initiating and sustaining these motivational currents. These findings contribute to DMC theory by revealing how intrinsic and extrinsic factors jointly foster and maintain high levels of motivation over time, offering valuable insights for designing targeted interventions to enhance EFL motivation and learning among Chinese adolescents. Blood flow restriction training (BFRT) offers notable advantages, including simplicity and time efficiency. However, no meta-analysis has yet comprehensively evaluated its effects on glucose and lipid metabolism in overweight or obese adults. This meta-analysis examines the potential efficacy of BFRT in improving glycemic and lipid control in overweight/obese adults. The literature was searched in six databases, with the search period up to 31 March 2025. A total of eight randomized controlled trials involving 267 participants were identified. Data were analyzed using Stata 18.0 and RevMan 5.4 with random effects models. Outcomes included fasting blood glucose (FBG), homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), and lipid profiles, and risk of bias and publication bias (Egger’s test) were assessed. BFRT significantly reduced FBG (Hedges’ g = −1.13, 95% CI: −1.65 to −0.62, p < 0.01; I2 = 66.34%) and HOMA-IR (Hedges’ g = −0.98, 95% CI: −1.35 to −0.61, p < 0.01; I2 = 17.33%) compared with the controls. However, no significant changes were observed in lipid profiles. Our analysis demonstrates that BFRT exhibits the favorable effect of improving glucose metabolism in overweight/obese adults; however, current evidence does not support significant advantages of BFRT for lipid metabolism improvement.
