This study investigates how young Chinese consumers across generational lines engage with wine, addressing three key research questions: What motivates their wine purchases? What sensory preferences do they exhibit? And through which channels do they prefer to buy wine? Based on a qualitative design combining focus groups and semi-structured interviews, the study identifies significant generational differences between millennials and post-millennials. Millennials treat wine as a social tool for networking and status, while post-millennials view wine as a medium of personal identity shaped by digital culture. Similarly, millennials prefer a balance of traditional and digital retail, whereas post-millennials favour online platforms. Experiential consumption follows the same pattern, from formal tourism to virtual tastings. By linking these findings to institutional and cultural theories of consumer behaviour, the study contributes to a nuanced understanding of wine consumption in an emerging market. It provides practical implications for wine marketers aiming to localize their strategies for younger Chinese segments. Full article

This paper aims to discuss the transition of new graduate nurses into the workforce, the preparation provided to equip them through the novice–beginner stage, and the theory–practice conundrum. Background: In Australia, new graduate transition programs have been in existence since the 1990s. While there is widespread acknowledgment that this period is pivotal for new graduate nurses entering the profession, there is a lack of consensus on the definition of best practice to achieve optimal preparation for new graduate nurses transitioning into the workforce. Methods: This discussion paper integrates the nursing literature on this topic with the extensive professional experiences of the authors, who are currently working as clinicians in metropolitan hospitals and hold academic positions at universities. Their insights are informed by the literature sourced from peer-reviewed English language journals, including reviews, empirical studies, and national and international reports. Discussion: Recruiting and retaining nurses presents a multifaceted challenge that requires the development of effective tools and strategies to build a sustainable workforce. Both the literature and the authors’ experiences highlight several key factors influencing the preparedness of new graduates. These factors include workplace culture, the demands placed on new graduates, and the support, education, and training they receive. The perspectives shared in this article offer valuable discussion points that can deepen our understanding of the current issues and contribute to the development of more effective solutions. This study examines the factors that influence individuals’ intentions to create socially oriented ventures, emphasizing the joint role of social and technical systems. Grounded in Socio-Technical Systems Theory, the research investigates how perceptions of social legitimacy and technological infrastructure shape social entrepreneurial intention (SEI) and how these effects are conditioned by generational cohort, familiarity and intent to use artificial intelligence (AI), and social proximity to entrepreneurial peers. Based on survey data from 388 respondents in China who expressed interest in both entrepreneurship and social problem-solving, the study applies a conditional process structural equation model to capture the complex interplay between external systems and individual-level readiness. The results show that both social and technical systems significantly and positively influence SEI, particularly among younger generations (Millennials and Generation Z). Furthermore, AI familiarity and social proximity operate as moderated mediators, differentially transmitting and shaping systemic influences on SEI. These findings advance the theoretical understanding of socio-technical determinants of social entrepreneurship and offer practical insights for fostering inclusive, generationally responsive entrepreneurial ecosystems. Understanding morphological descriptions of plants documented by ancient peoples over 1000 years ago and identifying the species they described are critical for reconstructing the natural geographic distribution of plant taxa, tracking taxonomic variations, and inferring historical climate dynamics. Analyzing shifts in plant communities and climatic conditions during this period is essential to unravel the interplay among floristic composition, climate fluctuations, and anthropogenic impacts. However, research in this field remains limited, with greater emphasis placed on plant taxa from hundreds of millions of years ago. Investigations into flora and climate during the last two millennia are sparse, and pre-millennial climatic conditions remain poorly characterized. In this study, a historical text written 1475 years ago was analyzed to compile plant names and morphological features, followed by taxonomic identification. The research identified three gymnosperm species (one in Pinaceae, two in Cupressaceae), 1 Tamaricaceae species (dicotyledon), and 19 dicotyledon species. However, three plant groups could only be identified at the genus level. Using textual analysis and woody plant coexistence methods, the climate of 1475 years ago in western Henan Province, located in the middle-lower Yellow River basin in East Asia, was reconstructed. Results indicate that the mean temperature of the coldest month (MTCM) was approximately 1.3 °C higher than modern values. In comparison, the mean temperature of the warmest month (MTWM) and mean annual temperature (MAT) were lower than present-day levels. This suggests slightly cooler overall conditions with milder seasonal extremes in ancient Luoyang—a finding supported by contemporaneous studies. Furthermore, annual precipitation (AP), precipitation of the warmest quarter (PWQ), and precipitation of the coldest quarter (PCQ) in the Luoyang region 1475 years ago exceeded modern measurements, despite the area’s monsoonal climate. This suggests significantly higher atmospheric moisture content in ancient air masses compared to today. This study provides floristic and climatic baseline data for advancing our understanding of global climate variability at millennial scales. Full article

Understanding the mechanisms of protein preservation in extreme environments is essential for identifying potential molecular biosignatures on Mars. In this study, we investigated five sabkha sedimentary samples from the Abu Dhabi coast, spanning from the present day to ~11,000 years before present (BP), to assess how mineralogy and environmental conditions influence long-term protein stability. Using LC-MS/MS and direct Data-independent Acquisition (DIA) proteomic analysis, we identified 722 protein groups and 1300 peptides, revealing a strong correlation between preservation and matrix composition. Carbonate- and silica-rich samples favored the retention of DNA-binding and metal-coordinating proteins via mineral–protein interactions, while halite- and gypsum-dominated facies showed lower recovery due to extreme salinity and reduced biomass input. Functional profiling revealed a shift from metabolic dominance in modern samples to genome maintenance strategies in ancient ones, indicating microbial adaptation to prolonged environmental stress. Contrary to expectations, some ancient samples preserved large, multi-domain proteins, suggesting that early mineral encapsulation can stabilize structurally complex biomolecules over millennial timescales. Taxonomic reconstruction based on preserved proteins showed broad archaeal diversity, including Thaumarchaeota and thermophilic lineages, expanding our understanding of microbial ecology in hypersaline systems. These findings highlight sabkhas as valuable analogs for Martian evaporitic environments and suggest that carbonate–silica matrices on Mars may offer optimal conditions for preserving ancient molecular traces of life. Premium fashion brands are increasingly adopting Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) to reduce costs and enhance creativity. However, consumers have mixed perceptions of clothing with AI-generated patterns (CAGPs) launched by premium fashion brands, especially in online shopping contexts where consumers cannot examine physical products firsthand. This study integrates the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) with Customer Perceived Value (CPV) to investigate Chinese Millennials’ attitudes and purchase intentions toward online purchases of CAGPs launched by premium fashion brands. Using a purposive sampling approach, the study collected 471 valid responses from Chinese Millennials. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was then employed to test the proposed model and hypotheses. The results reveal that perceived brand design effort and perceived price value are primary drivers of purchase intention for CAGPs from premium fashion brands, while perceived aesthetic value significantly shapes consumer attitudes. The subjective norm and attitude positively influence purchase intention. This study sheds light on the roles of aesthetic, emotional, monetary and social factors in driving purchase intention, offering practical suggestions for premium brands’ product design and marketing strategies. Cross-sectional research suggests associations between enrichment and cognitive skills in toddlerhood. There are no prospectively designed longitudinal studies that investigate the link between early home literacy activities and subsequent mechanisms that explain the putative cognitive benefits. This study tests long-term associations between toddler literacy enrichment and later student engagement across key academic transitions, from kindergarten to the end of high school. Using the Quebec Longitudinal Study of Child Development (QLSCD) population-based birth cohort data, we examined whether parent-reported experiences of shared reading, looking at picture books or illustrated stories, and pretend writing at age 2 years predict later teacher- and self-reported student engagement at ages 6, 12, and 17 years. The results from multiple regression models, stratified by sex and adjusted for pre-existing and concurrent child and family characteristics, revealed significant associations between early literacy enrichment and later engagement. For boys and girls, literacy enrichment in toddlerhood predicted increases in classroom engagement from kindergarten to the end of high school. These findings highlight the lasting influence of early literacy exposure on subsequent learning-related behaviors, both in and beyond the classroom. They underscore the importance of promoting enrichment in early childhood as a family strategy toward individual readiness to learn, a cornerstone of crystalized intelligence. Full article

Integrated facies and micropaleontological analyses of the late Piacenzian to early Gelasian, middle shelf to lower shoreface succession of the Strongoli area, southern Italy, reveal a hierarchy of transgressive–regressive sequences. In particular, higher rank sequences up to ca. 40 m thick, composed of transgressive systems tract, highstand systems tracts and falling stage plus lowstand systems tracts, are composed of 10–11 lower rank sequences 2.5–4 m thick. Some micropaleontological parameters were defined: distal/proximal (D/P; ratio between distal and proximal benthic foraminifera); fragmentation (Fr; percentage of fragmentation of benthic foraminifera); P/B (ratio between planktonic and benthic foraminifera); abundance (total count of individuals); diversity (sum of the recognized species). Among these parameters, the D/P and Fr are suitable, if used in conjunction, to recognize uncertainty intervals containing the maximum flooding surface (between the D/P maxima and Fr minima) and the maximum regressive surface (between D/P minima and Fr maxima). Moreover, combining these parameters with the sedimentological evidence, it is possible to recognize transgressive and regressive trends of different hierarchical ranks. The present results are an example illustrating how an integration of different types of data allows the recognition of high-frequency sequences in shelf settings associated with minor shoreline shifts, which would otherwise have been unrecognized on the basis of only one kind of data. The present integrated approach, therefore, provides a way to improve the resolution of sequence stratigraphic analyses. Full article

This study investigated the social and behavioural impacts of employing a card game designed to support the teaching of business metrics through active peer-to-peer engagement, contrasting with traditional passive lectures. Grounded in Bandura’s Social Learning Theory (SLT), the study used a multiple-methods approach including student feedback, a focus group, and an interview. A novel card game, Metrics Masters©, was played by 390 students across a range of educational levels and settings. The research found that the game effectively introduced and reinforced their understanding of key business metrics, while simultaneously enhancing social interaction, teamwork, and problem-solving among Millennial and Generation Z students. The findings underline the efficacy of game-based learning and its close alignment with the SLT principles of observation, imitation, and social interaction. The theoretical contribution of this paper lies in its explicit application and extension of SLT within the context of business education, illustrating empirically how social interactions facilitated by game-based activities significantly enhance learning outcomes. Furthermore, this paper contributes to educational practice by providing robust evidence that game-based learning methods can effectively address educational challenges heightened by the COVID-19 pandemic, offering actionable strategies for educators aiming to foster both academic and social development among students. This study investigates consumer preferences and willingness to pay (WTP) for antioxidant-rich pomegranates, focusing on the roles of product attributes and generational differences. A survey of 3019 Italian consumers assessed consumption habits, perceived barriers, and WTP for antioxidant-enriched pomegranates. A Best–Worst Scaling (BWS) analysis was used to identify key product attributes, and generational segmentation highlighted differences in consumer behavior. The results reveal a strong preference for locally sourced pomegranates and a high valuation of health-related attributes, particularly antioxidant content. However, several consumption barriers emerged, including taste preferences, peeling difficulty, and limited product availability. While older generations, especially Baby Boomers, prioritize antioxidants for their health benefits, younger generations (Gen Z and Millennials) showed the highest WTP for antioxidant-enriched pomegranates, likely influenced by novelty seeking and engagement with food trends. These findings suggest that marketing strategies should emphasize both local origins and health benefits. From a policy perspective, supporting local agriculture and promoting the nutritional value of enriched foods could enhance consumer acceptance and expand the market potential. Full article

This study aims to explore the impact of the green marketing mix (at the macro and micro level) implemented by outdoor brands on the attitudes and brand loyalty of Millennial and Generation Z (MZ generation) consumers toward these outdoor brands. Additionally, it seeks to examine the moderating effect of MZ generation consumers’ involvement in outdoor activities on the relationship between the green marketing mix (macro level) and brand attitudes. Using a cross-sectional research design, a quota random sampling method was employed to extract a sample of 500 MZ generation consumers who had purchased an outdoor brand at least once in South Korea. To evaluate the reliability and validity of the measurement model, a confirmatory factor analysis was conducted, followed by a bifactor structural model analysis with a moderator of outdoor involvement to test the hypotheses. The results indicate that the green marketing mix implemented by outdoor brands had a significantly positive effect on consumers’ attitudes toward outdoor brands. Specifically, green products, green pricing, and green promotion positively influenced consumers’ attitudes toward outdoor brands. Furthermore, the level of involvement in outdoor activities significantly moderated the effect of the green marketing mix on brand attitudes. Notably, the higher the MZ generation’s involvement in outdoor activities, the stronger the impact of the green marketing mix on their attitudes toward outdoor brands. Finally, brand attitudes were found to have a significant positive effect on brand loyalty. Based on these findings, meaningful theoretical and practical implications are discussed. Full article

Palynology is an invaluable tool for reconstructing past biodiversity in agrarian and cultural landscapes and for understanding present-day environmental assets. By analysing past evidence, rooted in botanical knowledge, we can foresee future environmental trends. Italy, at the centre of the Mediterranean, is one of the richest countries in terms of pollen analyses from archaeological sites and therefore is particularly suited to reconstructing human–environment relationships and anthropogenic impacts on flora over time. We selected data filled in the database BRAIN. This paper presents new elaboration on pollen data from 14 published and unpublished archaeological sites, showing past plant diversity and land management in prehistorical and historical contexts of southern Italy. Overall, the research demonstrates that the floristic palaeodiversity, as revealed through the group-equalised indicator species analysis, supports and validates the palynological data on the flora of Campania, Basilicata, and Sicily. The study highlights the presence of ubiquitous pollen taxa in anthropogenic environments and explores the connection between past and present plant diversity. Full article

In today’s rapidly changing economic landscape, financial stability plays a crucial role in ensuring individual and societal well-being. Millennials encounter unique financial pressures, including shifting labor markets, high housing costs, and economic uncertainty, which may impact their financial stability and broader life choices. This cross-cultural comparative study investigates the interplay between financial stability and environmental sentiment among Greek and Dutch Millennials, exploring how cultural differences influence these dynamics. Utilizing a quantitative research methodology, the study analyzed responses from a convenient sample of 426 participants across Greece and the Netherlands, employing measures such as a multidimensional construct of financial stability and the New Environmental Paradigm (NEP) scale to assess environmental attitudes. The results indicated a significant positive correlation between perceived financial stability and pro-environmental sentiment in both cohorts, suggesting that economic security is a key facilitator of environmental engagement irrespective of cultural context. However, no significant differences were found in environmental sentiment between the two groups, highlighting a possible universal environmental awareness among Millennials transcending economic disparities. These findings suggest that policies aimed at enhancing financial stability may simultaneously foster greater environmental stewardship. The study underscores the importance of integrating economic and environmental policy to promote sustainable development globally among younger populations. Full article

Currently the largest workforce in the workplace, the millennial generation is perceived as being different to the preceding generations in the workplace, namely, baby boomers and generation X. Millennials are also seen as the leadership pipeline, yet leadership development that meets the needs of this generation appears to be absent. The objective of this study was to explore what millennial leaders are looking for concerning leadership development and training. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 millennial leaders employed in one large financial services organisation in South Africa. Content analysis was used to analyse the qualitative data collected, and coded themes were generated. The participants’ responses favoured more specific leadership development, such as structured mentorship programmes, experiential learning or on-the-job training, soft skills training, and digital online training with remote access. These findings, coupled with a close affinity shown for the more modern empowering and transformational leadership styles, closely align with the literature and affirm the need for a specialised and tailor-made leadership development strategy for millennial leaders. Organisations should take heed of what millennial leaders are looking for to become effective leaders in filling the leadership pipeline for the workplace. This research largely affirms international research trends that specify millennials as a unique group and the importance of revising traditional leadership development programmes for this generation as leaders. Research on generational differences in the workplace is important as it leads to more effective recruitment, retention, and employee wellbeing in terms of human resource management. This study investigates whether there are differences in perceptions of turnover intention, pay level, and organizational culture between different generational groups. First, this study identifies the relationship between pay level and turnover intention. Second, it confirms the moderating effect of organizational culture on the relationship between pay level and turnover intention. Finally, a three-way interaction analysis was conducted to determine whether these relationships differed between Baby Boomers, Gen Xers, and Millennials. As a result of the empirical analysis, the millennial generation showed higher turnover intention than other generations. It was confirmed that the effect of hierarchical culture was greater than that of pay level on the decrease in turnover intention in the millennial generation than in other generations. In other words, it was found that as the hierarchical culture weakened, the turnover intention of Millennials decreased more significantly than that of other generations. Based on these findings, we propose recommendations for understanding Millennials in the workplace and managing generational diversity. Full article
