Achieving the construction sector’s dual carbon objectives necessitates scaling green energy adoption in new residential buildings. The current literature critically overlooks four unresolved problems: oversimplified penalty mechanisms, ignoring escalating regulatory costs; static subsidies misaligned with market maturity evolution; systematic exclusion of innovation feedback from energy suppliers; and underexplored behavioral evolution of building owners. This study establishes a government–suppliers–owners evolutionary game framework with dynamically calibrated policies, simulated using MATLAB multi-scenario analysis. Novel findings demonstrate: (1) A dual-threshold penalty effect where excessive fines diminish policy returns due to regulatory costs, requiring dynamic calibration distinct from fixed-penalty approaches; (2) Market-maturity-phased subsidies increasing owner adoption probability by 30% through staged progression; (3) Energy suppliers’ cost-reducing innovations as pivotal feedback drivers resolving coordination failures, overlooked in prior tripartite models; (4) Owners’ adoption motivation shifts from short-term economic incentives to environmentally driven decisions under policy guidance. The framework resolves these gaps through integrated dynamic mechanisms, providing policymakers with evidence-based regulatory thresholds, energy suppliers with cost-reduction targets, and academia with replicable modeling tools. Gerbera piloselloides (L.)Cass. is an important ethnomedicinal plant. Wild populations are steadily declining, however, posing a risk of failure to meet future market demand. Investigating suitable habitats for this plant and key influencing factors is crucial for its artificial cultivation. In this study, we implemented an optimized MaxEnt to project suitable habitats for the target species in five different periods and explored the impact of different environmental variables on its distribution. Our study findings provide confirmation of the following: (1) The current and future potential distributions of Gerbera piloselloides are primarily located in the areas south of the Qinling–Huaihe boundary in China, with future expansions expected to shift northward and westward. (2) Notably, there was a contraction in the junction regions of the provinces of Jiangxi, Anhui, Hunan, and Hubei. (3) The number of highly suitable habitats in Fujian, Guangdong, Yunnan, and Guangxi is expanding; in comparison, the number in Guizhou, Sichuan, and Hainan is declining. (4) The primary environmental determinants shaping its range, together with the threshold values for highly suitable habitats, are the minimum temperature of the coldest month (bio6, 0.88–22.58 °C) and the temperature seasonality (bio4, 461.54–763.9). The findings presented in this work provide support for the artificial cultivation and conservation of this plant. Full article

In the design of military, automotive, medical, space, and professional equipment, it is essential to demonstrate that devices can operate for a specific duration with a given level of confidence. Reliability must be considered in the design process, which can involve component selection, component testing, and mitigation techniques such as redundancy and forward error correction (FEC). In modern DC–DC converters, a higher level of reliability is now a mandatory requirement—the ISO 26262, for example, acts as the guidance to provide the appropriate standardized requirements, processes and risk based approach, and it determines integrity levels (known as automotive safety integrity levels or ASILs). The purpose is to reduce risks caused by systematic and random failures to an appropriate level of acceptance. Since the release of MIL-HDBK-217F Notice 2 in 1995, newer standards for predicting failure rates have emerged in the electronic systems reliability market. These updated standards were introduced to address the limitations of the older standards, particularly in relation to advanced component technologies. Numerous studies have shown that the output capacitor bank is one of the most critical components concerning reliability. This work focuses on calculating the failure rates of an output capacitor bank and a MOSFET transistor pair used in a high-current, low-voltage buck converter. The failure rates are calculated using both the latest prediction standard, SN 29500, and the previous MIL-HDBK standard. This comparison serves as a valuable tool for selecting the output capacitor during the early stages of design. Both simulations and experimental setups were employed to measure the temperatures of the components. The SN 29500 standard is particularly beneficial for components operating in harsh environments, as it provides up-to-date failure rate data and stress models. The environmental conditions for the components were defined using a standard point of load (PoL) buck converter for both calculation methods. Results are compared by considering the impact of component temperature and by applying specific parameters such as reference and operating conditions. This kind of comparison is useful for circuit designers, especially in the field of Power electronics when the concept of designing with reliability in mind is adopted. Full article

In recent years, corporate ESG performance has been widely incorporated into investment decisions and capital allocation considerations, becoming a focal point and hot topic for research by governments and organizations worldwide. However, due to various reasons, significant discrepancies have emerged in ESG ratings for the same company across different institutions, and this growing divergence in ESG ratings has increasingly drawn the attention of scholars. Studying the differences in ESG (environmental, social, and corporate governance) ratings is of great significance. This not only helps to understand the root causes of differences, improve the objectivity, consistency, and comparability of ratings, but also helps users better understand the meaning and limitations of rating results. It is beneficial for investors to understand the focus of different ratings and develop more effective investment strategies. It can promote rated companies to improve the quality and transparency of ESG-related information disclosure. It can also provide a reference for regulatory agencies and policymakers, identify market failures and potential risks, and promote the development of more unified standards and frameworks. At the same time, this study can also promote the in-depth development of relevant academic research and theories. Based on this, this study systematically reviews the relevant literature on ESG rating divergence, focusing on its existence, causes, influencing factors, and impacts. The study finds that, in addition to the widespread existence of rating divergence in corporate ESG performance, scholars also disagree on the measurement and methods of this divergence. The reasons for rating divergence are mainly that ESG is a qualitative indicator; top-level design, intermediate calculations, and bottom-level data collection across multiple stages exacerbate divergence; and controversies in practice further deepen divergence, among others. The influencing factors and impact effects of ESG rating divergence are diverse. Given the existence of ESG rating divergence, all parties should treat ESG ratings with caution. This paper offers corresponding recommendations and looks forward to the future, providing a foundation for subsequent research. Full article

Sustainable development initiatives are essential for enhancing the social economy and environmental preservation in marginalised rural areas of Tanzania. This study examines the impact of an IoT micro-factory on sustainable development, addressing issues such as inadequate production techniques, agribusiness monopolisation practices, the shortage of small-scale factories, and the failure to leverage global market comparative advantages. It explores the mediating role of architectural innovation and the moderating role of industrial symbiosis. The study surveyed 196 participants, including 100 orange farmers, 96 industrial engineers in the beverage sector, and conducted interviews with 3 industrial managers and 3 industrial consultants. SmartPLS 4 was used to evaluate the relationships between constructs. The results indicate that both IoT micro-factories and global production networks (GPNs) have a direct influence on sustainable social-economic development. Architectural innovation mediates these relationships, while industrial symbiotic moderates the interaction between IoT micro-factories and architectural innovation. The findings emphasise the importance of IoT micro-factories for sustainable development, with industrial symbiotic relationships addressing gaps in knowledge, skills, and equitable trade. The industrial stakeholders should prioritise IoT micro-factories as small-scale factories to promote sustainable development in rural communities of developing countries. Full article

Predicting Climate Change Impacts on Agriculture in the Southwest United Kingdom

Climate change will create significant challenges to agriculture. The effects on livestock productivity and crop production are highly dependent on weather conditions with consequences for food security. If agriculture is to remain a viable industry and to maintain future food security, the adaptations and the ideal timeframes for their implementation to mitigate against climate change impacts will be essential knowledge. This study aims to show how farms will be affected and will need to adapt to climate change, based on a holistic examination of the entire farming process. A modified Bayesian belief network (BBN) was used to investigate climate change impacts on livestock, crops, soil, water use, disease, and pesticide use through the use of 48 indicators (comprising climate, agricultural, and environmental). The seasonal impact of climate change on all aspects of farming was investigated for three different climate forcing scenarios (RCPs 2.6, 4.5, and 8.5) for four timeframes (2030, 2050, 2080, and 2099). The results suggest that heat stress and disease in both livestock and crops will require adaptations (e.g., shelter infrastructure being built, new crops, or cultivators grown). Pest intensity is expected to rise, leading to increased pesticide use and greater damage to crops and livestock. Higher temperatures will likely cause increased drought and irrigation needs, while increasing rain intensity might lead to winter flooding. Soil quality maintenance will rely increasingly on fertilisers, with significant decreases in quality if unsustainable. Crop yield will be dependent on new crops or cultivators that can cope with a changing climate being successful and market access; failure to do so could lead to substantial decrease, in food security. Impacts are more significant from 2080 onwards, with the severity of impacts dependent on season. Full article

This conceptual paper introduces Macro Stewardship (Ma-S) as a transformative approach in sustainable finance to challenge financial market failures that contribute to systemic collective action issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and inequality. It argues that traditional Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategies focus on individual corporate actions and often fail to drive systemic change. Ma-S, on the other hand, leverages the power of financial institutions to engage governments, policymakers, and stakeholders in addressing market failures tied to sustainability. Unlike Micro Stewardship (Mi-S) or ESG approach, which centers on corporate-level engagement, Ma-S promotes collaborative interventions to align the interests of businesses, governments, and society. This approach aims to influence regulatory changes, shape public policy, and support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The paper is guided by the research question: How can Macro Stewardship by financial institutions serve as a transformative approach in sustainable finance to achieve systemic change? It proposes a definition for Ma-S, outlines its practical applications, identifies implementation challenges, and presents a research agenda to evaluate its effectiveness and impact. In doing so, the paper lays a foundation for future empirical studies and calls for a shift in how financial systems contribute to global sustainability. Full article

Civilization begins with rivers, and so does pollution. Examining and deciphering the possible ecological curse effect of abundant river resources has a profound impact on sustainable economic development. This paper empirically examines the impact of urban rivers on the environmental performance of listed companies by constructing indicators of urban river length and density and measuring river resources in prefecture-level cities with a sample of listed companies in China from 2011 to 2022. It is found that the richer the urban rivers are, the lower the environmental performance of listed companies in the region, and the conclusion still holds after the robustness and endogeneity tests, proving that rivers as important natural resources also have the ecological curse effect. Further mechanism analysis reveals that urban river resources will reduce the production cost of enterprises and generate path dependence, which will have a crowding-out effect on the green innovation of enterprises; at the same time, abundant river resources will induce market failure, and institutional weakness accelerates the polluting behavior of enterprises. The research in this paper enriches the micro impacts and mechanisms of the ecological curse and provides useful references for river pollution management. Full article

The rapid growth in the battery electric vehicle (BEV) market has brought lithium-ion battery (LIB) packs to the forefront due to their superior power and energy density properties. However, LIBs are highly susceptible to environmental factors, operating conditions, and manufacturing inconsistencies and operate within a narrow safety operating window. Battery faults pose significant risks, including potentially catastrophic thermal runaway, that can be initiated even by small faults, propagating further into a chain reaction cascade of failures. Aiming to improve the safety of such battery packs, this article presents the developed autoencoder-based fault detection method. The method, enhanced by computational intelligence and machine learning, is a result of extensive research into optical liquid detection systems (OLDSs) for immersion-cooled battery packs, where optical rather than electrical signals are used inside high-voltage areas. The performance was evaluated using recorded real-life datasets under faultless states and under simulated fault states through specific model performance indicators as well as detection performance indicators. With the escalating environmental issues, the imperatives to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and advance energy products through innovation, energy production, and consumption frequently result in environmental externalities. Conventional markets frequently struggle to address these external factors, resulting in market failures. Consumers are more aware of the environmental repercussions, regulatory mandates, and potential economic benefits of new energy vehicles (NEVs). Consequently, there has been a substantial surge in the demand for NEVs as alternatives to conventional vehicles. This study analyses the method by which innovative technology moves from the stage of purchase intention dissemination toward market adoption and explores strategies to expedite this process. Moreover, it examines how the intentions of customers to purchase ecologically friendly energy goods and their receptiveness to such products affect the expansion of the market. Further analysis indicates that the factors influencing consumers’ attitudes towards NEVs include the adoption of ecological innovation, awareness of environmental product knowledge, and perceived value of innovative, environmentally friendly energy products. The purpose of this study is to expand upon the existing literature on consumer demand, examining the influential factors that extend the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) to enhance consumer intention through internal mechanisms. It explicitly focuses on these aspects, as well as perceived risk (PR) and perceived value (PV), to identify gaps in the literature and contribute to intentions to purchase NEVs in China. This study presents a thorough research framework for efficiently examining customer demand for comparable eco-friendly energy products. It investigates the potential influence of attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioural control, and environmental perceptions, specifically those concerning environmental knowledge and concerns. Moreover, personal factors such as attitude, normative beliefs, and perceived control beliefs were found to impact consumer attitudes towards NEVs. The key factor influencing purchasing intention was the attitude towards NEVs. Simultaneously, subjective norms did not have a direct effect on purchase intentions. However, social influence played a significant role in the decision-making process, with perceived behavioural control and subjective norms exerting considerable influence. Full article

With the growing market of secondary batteries for electric vehicles (EVs) and grid-scale energy storage systems (ESS), driven by environmental challenges, the commercialization of sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) has emerged to address the high price of lithium resources used in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). However, achieving competitive energy densities of SIBs to LIBs remains challenging due to the absence of high-capacity anodes in SIBs such as the group-14 elements, Si or Ge, which are highly abundant in LIBs. This review presents potential candidates in metal pnictogenides as promising anode materials for SIBs to overcome the energy density bottleneck. The sodium-ion storage mechanisms and electrochemical performance across various compositions and intrinsic physical and chemical properties of pnictogenide have been summarized. By correlating these properties, strategic frameworks for designing advanced anode materials for next-generation SIBs were suggested. The trade-off relation in pnictogenides between the high specific capacities and the failure mechanism due to large volume expansion has been considered in this paper to address the current issues. This review covers several emerging strategies focused on improving both high reversible capacity and cycle stability. Full article

Specialty agriculture, promoted in China to enhance rural revitalization and farmers’ wellbeing, depends heavily on local social–ecological conditions and land transformations. However, existing studies often emphasize socio-institutional successes while oversimplifying ecological complexity and neglecting failures. This study examines the rise and fall of rural specialty agriculture through a social–ecological land system perspective, using the cherry tomato industry in C Town, China, as a case study. Drawing on qualitative data from field investigations and interviews, we adapt an extended Social–Ecological Systems Framework (SESF) to analyze interactions among governance subsystems, land resources, and external shocks, and their role in social–ecological transitions. Our findings show that the shift from farmer-led self-organization to government-driven and enterprise-dominated governance significantly undermined system resilience and adaptability. Although external interventions initially spurred industrialization and scaling, they marginalized farmers, leading to the system’s collapse under stressors like market fluctuations and environmental challenges. Our findings highlight the importance of inclusive governance for sustaining land-based agricultural systems, and point to the need of prioritizing farmer autonomy, sustainable land use planning, and adaptive governance to ensure the resilience and long-term sustainability of specialty agriculture systems. Notwithstanding the benefits derived from successful startup firms in the contemporary entrepreneurial landscape, for many startup firms, the pathway to success is extremely challenging; unfortunately, the failure rate is globally high. The aim of this article is to review empirical contributions regarding startup firms and provide a comprehensive analysis of the factors influencing their success in developed and emerging markets. Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, a systematic search was undertaken within the Web of Science database, encompassing studies published between 2004 and 2024, which were analyzed. The PRISMA framework is preferred because it stands out from other guidelines due to its transparent and complete reporting and evidence-based recommendations. This work also employed aggregate impact estimation to rank the relative importance of each success factor regarding the success of startups. This article offers a comprehensive analysis of 24 success factors extracted from a systematic review of 48 empirical studies conducted on the subject. We prioritized each success factor according to their relative impact on the success of startup firms. These were classified as personal (entrepreneurial vision and leadership, adaptability, networking), organizational (team building, financial and resource management, innovation, strategy and marketing) and environmental factors (government support and dynamism of political, economic and cultural environment). The findings underscore the importance of a holistic approach that considers both internal and external factors in fostering startup success. However, it is essential to acknowledge that not all factors exert comparable effects on success; certain factors wield a substantial influence, whereas others demonstrate a significant yet lesser impact. Several conclusions and implications for startup founders, government policymakers and startup firm researchers are derived. Full article

Meeting renewable energy targets is one of the most significant global challenges to achieving SDG 7—Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all. This study focuses on the global energy transition to understand the factors that influence success or failure in achieving targets. First, the gap between the stated targets and our predictions was calculated. Next, the roles of economic, political, and environmental variables in determining this gap were analyzed. Data were collected from 63 countries from 2000 to 2022, ensuring the global representativeness and robustness of the results. Many countries may struggle to meet their renewable energy targets. Political stability, regulatory quality, and investment freedom play a remarkable role in helping countries get closer to achieving their targets. More industrialized countries with large populations face greater challenges due to high energy intensity. This paper aims to predict the propensity of countries to meet their energy targets by integrating the forecasting and analysis of the economic, political, and geographical factors that influence a green transition. The results provide new insights into how socioeconomic and geopolitical differences influence the energy transition, offering insights for more effective policies. It is argued that accelerated administrative procedures are needed to reduce investment uncertainty and improve energy systems’ flexibility. In addition, involving local communities in the decision-making process is important to ensure the acceptance of RE projects. Finally, introducing energy markets that reflect the characteristics of renewable sources is recommended to facilitate a more rapid and sustainable transition. Full article

Fiber-reinforced thermoplastics (FRTPs) have become a new generation of lightweight materials due to their superior mechanical properties, good weldability and environmental resistance, potential for recycling, etc. The market for FRTPs is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.8% from 2022 to 2030. Many researchers have been trying to solve the problems in their processing and joining process, and gradually expand their application. Resistance welding is one of the most suitable techniques to join FRTPs. This paper summarizes the research progress of FRTP resistance welding in terms of the basic process of FRTP resistance welding, factors affecting joint performance, joint failure behavior, numerical simulation, weld quality control, and resistance welding of thermoplastic/thermoset composites. The objective of this paper is to provide a deeper insight into the knowledge of FRTP resistance welding and provide reference for the further development and application of FRTP resistance welding.
