In this paper, a compact wideband filtering monopole is presented for remote terrestrial omnidirectional communication systems. The presented antenna features a sleeve monopole structure integrating with two key components: the lumped parallel RLC circuits and an embedded high–low impedance structure within the sleeve section. The integrated high–low impedance structure enables the monopole to achieve excellent filtering characteristics while maintaining the monopole compactly. Meanwhile, the combination of the RLC loads and the sleeve monopole ensures wideband omnidirectional radiation performance. To validate the design, a prototype operating from 200 to 1500 MHz is fabricated and tested. The measurement results demonstrate that the monopole achieves a VSWR below 3 across the entire operating band and a measured gain exceeding 0 dB. Furthermore, the monopole exhibits satisfactory out-of-band rejection from 1700 to 4000 MHz, confirming its effective filtering capability. Full article

This study proposes an improved YOLO11n-seg instance segmentation model to address the limitations of existing models in accurately identifying mature blueberries in complex greenhouse environments. Current methods often lack sufficient accuracy when dealing with complex scenarios, such as fruit occlusion, lighting variations, and target overlap. To overcome these challenges, we developed a novel approach that integrates a Spatial–Channel Adaptive (SCA) attention mechanism and a Dual Attention Balancing (DAB) module. The SCA mechanism dynamically adjusts the receptive field through deformable convolutions and fuses multi-scale color features. This enhances the model’s ability to recognize occluded targets and improves its adaptability to variations in lighting. The DAB module combines channel–spatial attention and structural reparameterization techniques. This optimizes the YOLO11n structure and effectively suppresses background interference. Consequently, the model’s accuracy in recognizing fruit contours improves. Additionally, we introduce Normalized Wasserstein Distance (NWD) to replace the traditional intersection over union (IoU) metric and address bias issues that arise in dense small object matching. Experimental results demonstrate that the improved model significantly improves target detection accuracy, recall rate, and mAP@0.5, achieving increases of 1.8%, 1.5%, and 0.5%, respectively, over the baseline model. On our self-built greenhouse blueberry dataset, the mask segmentation accuracy, recall rate, and mAP@0.5 increased by 0.8%, 1.2%, and 0.1%, respectively. In tests across six complex scenarios, the improved model demonstrated greater robustness than mainstream models such as YOLOv8n-seg, YOLOv8n-seg-p6, and YOLOv9c-seg, especially in scenes with dense occlusions. The improvement in mAP@0.5 and F1 scores validates the effectiveness of combining attention mechanisms and multiple metric optimizations, for instance, segmentation tasks in complex agricultural scenes. This study systematically investigated the corrosion behavior of P110 pipeline steel in simulated carbonated concrete environments through a combination of electrochemical testing and multiphysics simulation, with particular focus on revealing the evolution mechanisms of corrosion product deposition and ion concentration distribution under half crevice structures, providing new insights into localized corrosion in concealed areas. Experimental results showed that no significant corrosion occurred on the P110 steel surface in uncarbonated simulated pore solution. Conversely, the half crevice structure significantly promoted the development of localized corrosion in carbonated simulated pore solution, with the most severe corrosion and substantial accumulation of corrosion products observed at the crevice mouth region. COMSOL Multiphysics simulations demonstrated that this phenomenon was primarily attributed to local enrichment of Cl and H+ ions, leading to peak corrosion current density, and directional migration of Fe2+ ions toward the crevice mouth, causing preferential deposition of corrosion products at this location. This “electrochemical acceleration-corrosion product deposition” multiphysics coupling analysis of corrosion product deposition patterns within crevices represents a new perspective not captured by traditional crevice corrosion models. The established ion migration-corrosion product deposition model provides new theoretical foundations for understanding crevice corrosion mechanisms and predicting the service life of buried concrete pipelines. Constipation is a prevalent gastrointestinal disorder that significantly impairs quality of life. While pharmacological agents such as loperamide are widely used to induce constipation in experimental models, there is increasing interest in natural alternatives for alleviating intestinal dysfunction. In this study, we investigated the laxative effects of soybean powder fermented by Bacillus subtilis DKU_09 in a loperamide-induced rat model of constipation. The probiotic strain was isolated from cheonggukjang, a traditional Korean fermented soybean paste, and its identity was confirmed through 16S rRNA sequencing. Fermented soybean powder was characterized morphologically via scanning electron microscopy and chemically via HPLC to assess its isoflavone content. Rats were administered loperamide (5 mg/kg) for four days to induce constipation and were then treated with fermented soybean powder at doses of 100, 200, or 300 mg/kg. No pharmacological laxatives (e.g., PEG) were used as a positive control; instead, values from the treatment groups were compared with those from the loperamide-only constipation group. Key outcomes of fecal output, water content, colonic fecal retention, and gastrointestinal transit ratio were measured. The fermented product significantly improved stool frequency and moisture content, reduced colonic fecal retention, and restored gastrointestinal transit in a dose-dependent manner. Notably, the 300 mg/kg group demonstrated nearly complete recovery of fecal parameters without affecting body weight. Statistical analysis was performed using one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey’s post hoc test. These findings suggest that Bacillus subtilis-fermented soybean powder exerts synergistic laxative effects through the combined action of probiotic viability and fermentation-enhanced bioactive compounds such as aglycone isoflavones. This study supports the potential use of fermented soybean-based nutraceuticals as a natural and safe intervention for constipation and gastrointestinal dysregulation. Full article

This paper addressed the problem of oil diagnostics lubricants applied to the predictive maintenance of industrial gearboxes, proposing the integration of an artificial intelligence (AI) system into the process analysis. The main objective was to overcome the critical issues of the traditional method, characterized by long analysis times and a marked dependence on the subjective interpretation of operators. The method includes a detailed statistical analysis of the common ways to assess the condition of lubricants, such as optical emission spectroscopy, particle counting, measuring viscosity and density, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). These methods are then combined with an artificial intelligence model. Tested on commercial gearbox data, the proposed approach demonstrates agreement between IA and expert evaluation. The application has shown that it can effectively support diagnoses, reduce processing time by 60%, and minimize human errors. It also improves knowledge sharing through an increase in the stability and repetitiveness of diagnoses and promotes consistency and clarity in reporting. Full article

The growing demand for food and the environmental impact of conventional agriculture have prompted the search for sustainable alternatives. Phycocyanin (PC) and total phenolic compounds (TPC) extracted from Spirulina platensis have shown potential for the biological control of phytopathogens. The extraction method directly influences the yield and stability of these compounds. This study aimed to establish an efficient extraction protocol for PC and TPC and to evaluate their antimicrobial efficacy in vitro against Colletotrichum orchidearum, Fusarium nirenbergiae, and Alternaria sp. isolated from hydroponically grown lettuce. The phytopathogens were identified based on phylogenetic analyses using sequences from the ITS, EF1-α, GAPDH, and RPB2 gene regions. This is the first report of C. orchidearum in hydroponic lettuce culture in Brazil, expanding its known host range. Extracts were obtained using hydroalcoholic solvents and phosphate buffer (PB), combined with ultrasound-assisted extraction (bath and probe). The extracts were tested for in vitro antifungal activity. Data were analyzed by ANOVA (p < 0.05), followed by Tukey’s test. The combination of the PB and ultrasound probe resulted in the highest PC (95.6 mg·g−1 biomass) and TPC (21.9 mg GAE·g−1) yields, using 10% (w/v) biomass. After UV sterilization, the extract retained its PC and TPC content. The extract inhibited C. orchidearum by up to 53.52% after three days and F. nirenbergiae by 54.17% on the first day. However, it promoted the growth of Alternaria sp. These findings indicate that S. platensis extracts are a promising alternative for the biological control of C. orchidearum and F. nirenbergiae in hydroponic systems. Full article

Almost one in three firefighters develop mental health disorders at some point during their careers, a rate double that in the general population. Frequent exposures to potentially traumatic situations can contribute to symptoms of these disorders, two of the most common being depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). While various psychological interventions have been implemented among this group, reports of their effectiveness include mixed results. To this end, the current study endeavored to test the effectiveness of a 12-week intervention combining occupationally-tailored high-intensity functional training (HIFT) and psychological resilience training (RES) in reducing depressive and post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSSs), as well as increasing psychological resilience and mental wellbeing, in career firefighters. Thirty career firefighters completed four mental health measurements over 17 weeks while anthropometrics and physical performance (i.e., number of stations completed in 20 min during an eight-station simulated job-task circuit workout [T-CAC]) were measured pre- and post-intervention. Pre to post comparisons were made via repeated-measures t-tests. Significant mean differences were observed for T-CAC stations completed, PTSSs, and psychological resilience between pre- and post-intervention. In future interventions, researchers should actively engage firefighters, maximize integration with daily operations, and employ culturally-relevant practices to explore the links between physical and mental health. Essential oils (EOs) constitute intricate mixtures of volatile phytochemicals that have garnered significant attention due to their multifaceted biological effects. Notably, the presence of bioactive constituents capable of inhibiting tyrosinase enzyme activity and scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS) underpins their potential utility in skin-related applications, particularly through the modulation of melanin biosynthesis and protection of skin-relevant cells from oxidative damage—a primary contributor to hyperpigmentation disorders. Zingiber officinale Rosc. (ginger) and Humulus lupulus L. (hop) are medicinal plants widely recognized for their diverse pharmacological properties. To the best of our knowledge, this study provides the first report on the synergistic interactions between essential oils derived from these species (referred to as EOZ and EOH) offering novel insights into their combined bioactivity. The purpose of this study was to evaluate essential oils extracted from ginger rhizomes and hop strobiles with respect to the following: (1) chemical composition, determined by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS); (2) tyrosinase inhibitory activity; (3) capacity to inhibit linoleic acid peroxidation; (4) ABTS•+ radical scavenging potential. Furthermore, the study utilizes both the combination index (CI) and dose reduction index (DRI) as quantitative parameters to evaluate the nature of interactions and the dose-sparing efficacy of essential oil (EO) combinations. GC–MS analysis identified EOZ as a zingiberene-rich chemotype, containing abundant sesquiterpene hydrocarbons such as α-zingiberene, β-bisabolene, and α-curcumene, while EOH exhibited a caryophyllene diol/cubenol-type profile, dominated by oxygenated sesquiterpenes including β-caryophyllene-9,10-diol and 1-epi-cubenol. In vitro tests demonstrated that both oils, individually and in combination, showed notable anti-tyrosinase, radical scavenging, and lipid peroxidation inhibitory effects. These results support their multifunctional bioactivity profiles with possible relevance to skin care formulations, warranting further investigation. Full article

Natural enemies commonly probe larval bodies and frass with their antennae for prey hunting. However, the attractants to natural enemies emitted directly from hosts and host-associated tissues remained largely unknown. Here, we used two generalist noctuid species, Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner) and Spodoptera frugiperda (JE Smith), along with the larval endoparasitoid Microplitis mediator (Haliday) to address the question. Extracts of larval frass of both the noctuid species were strongly attractive to M. mediator females when hosts were fed either maize, cotton, soybean leaves, or an artificial diet without leaf tissues. By using a combination of electrophysiological measurements and behavioral tests, we found that the attractiveness of frass mainly relied on a volatile compound ethyl palmitate. The compound was likely to be a by-product of host digestion involving gut bacteria because an antibiotic supplement in diets reduced the production of the compound in frass and led to the decreased attractiveness of frass to the parasitoids. In contrast, extracts of the larval bodies of both the noctuid species appeared to be less attractive to the parasitoids than their respective fecal extracts, independently of types of food supplied to the larvae. Altogether, larval frass of the two noctuid species was likely to be more important than their bodies in attracting the endoparasitoid species, and the main attractant of frass was probably one of the common metabolites of digestion involving gut microbes, and its emission is likely to be independent of host plant species. MRI-Based Radiomics for Outcome Stratification in Pediatric Osteosarcoma

Background/Objectives: Osteosarcoma (OS) is the most common malignant bone tumor in children and adolescents; the survival rate is as low as 24%. Accurate prediction of clinical outcomes remains a challenge due to tumor heterogeneity and the complexity of pediatric cases. This study aims to improve predictions of progressive disease, therapy response, relapse, and survival in pediatric OS using MRI-based radiomics and machine learning methods. Methods: Pre-treatment contrast-enhanced coronal T1-weighted MR scans were collected from 63 pediatric OS patients, with an additional nine external cases used for validation. Three strategies were considered for target region segmentation (whole-tumor, tumor sampling, and bone/soft tissue) and used for MRI-based radiomics. These were then combined with clinical features to predict OS clinical outcomes. Results: The mean age of OS patients was 11.8 ± 3.5 years. Most tumors were located in the femur (65%). Osteoblastic subtype was the most common histological classification (79%). The majority of OS patients (79%) did not have evidence of metastasis at diagnosis. Progressive disease occurred in 27% of patients, 59% of patients showed adequate therapy response, 25% experienced relapse after therapy, and 30% died from OS. Classification models based on bone/soft tissue segmentation generally performed the best, with certain clinical features improving performance, especially for therapy response and mortality. The top performing classifier in each outcome achieved 0.94–1.0 validation ROC AUC and 0.63–1.0 testing ROC AUC, while those without radiomic features (RFs) generally performed suboptimally. Conclusions: This study demonstrates the strong predictive capabilities of MRI-based radiomics and multi-region segmentations for predicting clinical outcomes in pediatric OS. Full article

This study proposed a mechanochemical activation strategy using ethanol-diisopropanolamine (EDIPA) to improve the grindability and hydration reactivity of basic oxygen furnace slag (BOFS), aiming for its large-scale industrial utilization. The incorporation of EDIPA significantly refined the particle size distribution and reduced the repose angle. As a result, the compressive strength of BOFS paste increased by 25.4 MPa at 28 d with only 0.08 wt.% EDIPA. Conductivity tests demonstrated that EDIPA strongly complexes with Ca2+, Al3+, and Fe3+, facilitating the dissolution of active mineral phases, such as C12A7 and C2F, and accelerating hydration reactions. XRD and TG analyses confirmed that the incorporation of EDIPA facilitated the formation of Mc (C4(A,F)ČH11) and increased the content of C-S-H, both of which contributed to microstructural densification. Microstructural observations further revealed that EDIPA refined Ca(OH)2 crystals, increasing their specific surface area from 4.7 m2/g to 35.2 m2/g. The combined effect of crystal refinement and enhanced hydration product formation resulted in reduced porosity and improved mechanical properties. Overall, the results demonstrated that EDIPA provided an economical, effective, and scalable means of activating BOFS, thereby promoting its high-value utilization in low-carbon construction materials. Saproxylic beetles are key bioindicators of forest ecosystem quality and play essential roles in deadwood decomposition and nutrient cycling. However, their populations are increasingly threatened by habitat fragmentation, deadwood removal, and climate-driven environmental changes. For this reason, an integrated sampling method can increase the detection of species with varying ecological traits. We evaluated the effectiveness of integrative sampling methodologies to assess saproxylic beetle diversity within Sila National Park, a Mediterranean forest ecosystem of high conservation value, specifically in two beech forests and four pine forests. The sampling methods tested included Pan Traps (PaTs), Malaise Traps (MTs), Pitfall Traps (PTs), Bait Bottle Traps (BBTs), and Visual Census (VC). All specimens were identified to the species level whenever possible, using specialized dichotomous keys and preserved in the Entomological Collection TB, Unical. Various trap types captured a different number of species: the PaT collected 32 species, followed by the PT with 24, the MT with 16, the VC with 7, and the BBT with 5 species. Interestingly, biodiversity analyses conducted using PAST software version 4.17 revealed that PaTs and MTs recorded the highest biodiversity indices. The GLMM analysis, performed using SPSS software 29.0.1.0, demonstrated that various traps attracted different species with different abundances. By combining multiple trapping techniques, we documented a more comprehensive community composition compared to single-method approaches. Moreover, PaTs, MTs, and PTs recorded 20%, 40%, and 33% of the Near Threatened species, respectively. We report new records for Sila National Park, including the LC species Pteryngium crenulatum (Curculionidae) and the NT species Grynocharis oblonga (Trogossitidae). For the first time in Calabria, the LC species Triplax rufipes (Erotylidae) and the NT species Oxypleurus nodieri (Cerambycidae) and Glischrochilus quadrisignatus (Nitidulidae) were collected. Our results emphasize the importance of method diversity in capturing species with distinct ecological requirements and highlight the relevance of saproxylic beetles as indicators of forest health. These findings support the adoption of multi-method sampling protocols in forest biodiversity monitoring and management programs, especially in biodiversity-rich and structurally heterogeneous landscapes. Low-frequency (LF) time code timing technology holds significant importance in civilian applications such as radio-controlled clocks. This study focuses on the design and implementation of a high-precision Binary Phase Code (BPC) LF time code signal generator. A generator system was constructed, demonstrating good stability, superior resolution, and flexible adjustment capabilities for both amplitude and phase. The system employs an ARM + FPGA cooperative architecture: the ARM processor is responsible for parsing and scheduling the time code data, while the FPGA implements carrier wave generation and high-precision digital modulation. This digital processing is combined with analog circuitry to achieve digital-to-analog (D/A) signal conversion. Compared to traditional methods, carrier generation is achieved using Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) technology. Digital modulation techniques enable the precise control of the modulation depth (adjustable between 70% and 90%) and phase (with a resolution of 1 ns). A sliding window algorithm was utilized for time difference calculation and compensation. Testing confirmed the stability of key signal parameters, including integrity, carrier frequency and modulation depth. These results validate the feasibility and superiority of the digital LF time code generation technology proposed in this study, providing a valuable reference for the development of next-generation timing equipment. Resistance of Gram-Negative Bacteria to Cefepime-Enmetazobactam: A Systematic Review

Cefepime-enmetazobactam is a novel β-lactam/β-lactamase inhibitor combination showing good activity against multidrug-resistant (MDR) Gram-negative bacteria producing a variety of β-lactamases. In this systematic review, we aimed to evaluate the available data on resistance to this drug. We performed a thorough search of four databases (Embase, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science), as well as backward citation searching, to identify studies containing data on resistance to cefepime-enmetazobactam. The data were extracted and analyzed according to the breakpoints established by the European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (EUCAST) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), or the specific breakpoints reported by the authors of the respective studies. Analysis based on the type of lactamases produced by the isolates was also performed. Ten studies reported in vitro susceptibility testing and mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance. The total number of isolates was 15,408. The activity of cefepime-enmetazobactam against β-lactamase-producing isolates was variable. The resistance of the studied extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing and ampicillin C β-lactamase (AmpC)-producing isolates was low (0–2.8% and 0%, respectively). The resistance was higher among oxacillinase-48 β-lactamase (OXA-48)-producing and Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC)-producing isolates (3.4–13.2% and 36.7–57.8%, respectively). High resistance was noted among metallo-β-lactamase (MBL)-producing isolates (reaching 87.5% in one study), especially those producing New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase (NDM) and Verona integron-encoded metallo-β-lactamase (VIM), which had the highest rates of resistance. The high activity of cefepime-enmetazobactam against Enterobacterales and selected lactose non-fermenting Gram-negative pathogens, including ESBL-producing and AmpC-producing isolates, makes it a potential carbapenem-sparing agent. The drug should be used after in vitro antimicrobial susceptibility testing in patients with infections caused by OXA-48, KPC, and MBL-producing isolates. Full article

Background/Objectives: The quality of clinical studies is largely determined by the bioanalytical methods used for testing study samples. Rigorous assay validation following defined criteria, for example, the European Medicines Agency guideline for bioanalytical method validation, is a prerequisite for such assays. Alpha1-antitrypsin (AAT) measurement, i.e., the specific measurement of AAT protein and its associated elastase-inhibitory activity, is an integral part of assay panels for clinical studies addressing AAT deficiency. Specifically, AAT must be measured in the matrix of citrated human plasma as well as in diluted solutions with high salt concentrations obtained through bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL). Sensitive and selective measurement methods are required, as BAL has a low level of AAT. Methods: We present the validation data obtained for three AAT measurement methods. Two of them, nephelometry and the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, which clearly differ in their sensitivity, provide AAT protein concentrations. The third is the highly sensitive, newly developed elastase complex formation immunosorbent assay that specifically measures the inhibitory activity of AAT against its pivotal target, protease neutrophil elastase. Using samples with relevant AAT concentrations, we addressed the assays’ characteristics: accuracy, precision, linearity, selectivity, specificity, limit of quantification and short-term analyte stability Results: Overall, the three methods demonstrated low total errors, a combined measure reflecting accuracy and precision, even at low analyte concentrations of less than 0.5 µg/mL; adequate linearity over the required assay range; and acceptable selectivity and specificity. Furthermore, the short-time stability of the analyte was also demonstrated. Conclusions: All three AAT measurement methods met the acceptance criteria defined by the guidelines on bioanalytical assay validation, qualifying these methods for clinical sample analysis.
