With the global low-carbon energy transition, accurate prediction of thermal and physical parameters of deep rock masses is critical for geothermal resource development. To address the insufficient generalization ability of machine learning models caused by scarce measured data on granite thermal conductivity, this study focused on granites from the Gonghe Basin and Songliao Basin in Qinghai Province. A data augmentation strategy combining cubic spline interpolation and Gaussian noise injection (with noise intensity set to 10% of the original data feature range) was proposed, expanding the original 47 samples to 150. Thermal conductivity prediction models were constructed using Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest (RF), and Backpropagation Neural Network(BPNN). Results showed that data augmentation significantly improved model performance: the RF model exhibited the best improvement, with its coefficient of determination R2 increasing from 0.7489 to 0.9765, Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) decreasing from 0.1870 to 0.1271, and Mean Absolute Error (MAE) reducing from 0.1453 to 0.0993. The BPNN and SVM models also improved, with R2 reaching 0.9365 and 0.8743, respectively, on the enhanced dataset. Feature importance analysis revealed porosity (with a coefficient of variation of 0.88, much higher than the longitudinal wave velocity’s 0.27) and density as key factors, with significantly higher contributions than longitudinal wave velocity. This study provides quantitative evidence for data augmentation and machine learning in predicting rock thermophysical parameters, promoting intelligent geothermal resource development. Full article

The present study focuses on the effect of doping KH560-modified cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) on the electro-optical characteristics of polymer-dispersed liquid crystals (PDLCs). PDLC films were fabricated through the polymerization-initiated phase separation (PIPS) process and doped with CNC nanoparticles at various concentrations. At low concentrations, the CNCs at the interface, by virtue of their unique chiral characteristics, induce an orderly arrangement of liquid crystal molecules. Meanwhile, the interaction between the film’s fiber structure and the liquid crystal droplets brings about an augmentation in the arrangement efficiency. The excellent dispersion of CNCs diminishes the random alignment of liquid crystal molecules and mitigates light scattering. Additionally, it aids in the deflection of the liquid crystal director, facilitating the lubrication of the liquid crystals’ movement. It is remarkable that within the range of relatively lower CNCs doping concentrations, specifically from 0.005 wt% to 0.05 wt%, the PDLC films exhibit lower threshold and saturation voltages, faster response, enhanced viewing angle performance and higher contrast. A Streptococcus suis strain isolated from the blood of a patient in Zhejiang Province, China, was analysed using whole-genome sequencing and tested for antimicrobial resistance. The isolated strain was identified as S. suis serotype 2, and classified to ST25 on multilocus sequence typing (MLST). The minimum core genome group of the strain was identified as Group 4, and multilocus variable-number tandem-repeat analysis (MLVA) assigned it as type 2, 4.4, 0, 9, 3, 2, 0, 0. An antimicrobial resistance analysis showed that the strain was resistant to clindamycin, tetracycline, azithromycin, and erythromycin but sensitive to 11 other antibiotics. In a genomic evolution analysis, this isolate clustered on the same branch as North American pig isolate, Chinese pig isolates from Tianjin, and Hubei pig isolates. Full article

The process of geothermal energy development may cause induced seismic activities, posing a potential threat to the sustainable utilization and safety of geothermal energy. To effectively evaluate the danger of induced seismic activities, this paper establishes an artificial neural network model and selects nine influencing factors as the input parameters of the neurons. Based on the results of induced seismic activity under different parameter conditions, a sensitivity analysis is conducted for each parameter, and the influence degree of each parameter on the magnitude of induced seismic activity is ranked from largest to smallest as follows: in situ stress state, fault presence or absence, depth, degree of fracture aggregation, maximum in situ stress, distance to fault, injection volume, fracture dip angle, angle between fracture, and fault. Then, the weights of each parameter in the model are modified to improve the accuracy of the model. Finally, through data collection and the literature review, the Pohang EGS project in South Korea is analyzed, and the induced seismic activity influencing factors of the Pohang EGS site are analyzed and evaluated using the induced seismic activity evaluation model. The results show that the induced seismicity are all located below 3.7 km (drilling depth). As the depth increases, the seismicity magnitude also shows a gradually increasing trend. An increase in injection volume and a shortening of the distance from faults will also lead to an increase in the seismicity magnitude. When the injection volume approaches 10,000 cubic meters, the intensity of the seismic activity sharply increases, and the maximum magnitude reaches 5.34, which is consistent with the actual situation. This model can be used for the induced seismic evaluation of future EGS projects and provide a reference for project site selection and induced seismic risk warning. Full article

Amorphous boron powder, as a high-energy fuel, is widely used in the energy sector. However, its ignition and combustion difficulties have long limited its performance in propellants, explosives, and pyrotechnics. In this study, Mg/Al-coated boron powder with enhanced combustion properties was synthesized using the electrical explosion method. To investigate the effect of Mg/Al coating on the ignition and combustion behavior of boron powder, four samples with different Mg/Al coating contents (4 wt.%, 6 wt.%, 8 wt.%, and 10 wt.%) were prepared. Compared with raw B95 boron powder, the coated powders showed a significant reduction in particle size (from 2.9 μm to 0.2–0.3 μm) and a marked increase in specific surface area (from 10.37 m2/g to over 20 m2/g). The Mg/Al coating formed a uniform layer on the boron surface, which reduced the ignition delay time from 143 ms to 40–50 ms and significantly improved the combustion rate, combustion pressure, and combustion calorific value. These results demonstrate that Mg/Al coating effectively promotes rapid ignition and sustained combustion of boron particles. Furthermore, with the increasing Mg/Al content, the ignition delay time decreased progressively, while the combustion rate, combustion pressure, and heat release increased accordingly, reaching optimal values at 8 wt.% Mg/Al. An analysis of the combustion residues revealed that both Mg and Al reacted with boron oxide to form new multicomponent compounds, which reduced the barrier effect of the oxide layer on oxygen diffusion into the boron core, thereby facilitating continuous combustion and high heat release. This work innovatively employs the electrical explosion method to prepare dual-metal-coated boron powders and, for the first time, reveals the synergistic promotion effect of Mg and Al coatings on the ignition and combustion performance of boron. The results provide both experimental data and theoretical support for the high-energy release and practical application of boron-based fuels. Full article

In a greenhouse environment, the application of artificial intelligence technology for selective tomato harvesting still faces numerous challenges, including varying lighting, background interference, and indistinct fruit surface features. This study proposes an improved instance segmentation model called FGS-YOLOv8s-seg, which achieves accurate detection and maturity grading of tomatoes in greenhouse environments. The model incorporates a novel SegNext_Attention mechanism at the end of the backbone, while simultaneously replacing Bottleneck structures in the neck layer with FasterNet blocks and integrating Gaussian Context Transformer modules to form a lightweight C2f_FasterNet_GCT structure. Experiments show that this model performs significantly better than mainstream segmentation models in core indicators such as precision (86.9%), recall (76.3%), average precision (mAP@0.5 84.8%), F1-score (81.3%), and GFLOPs (35.6 M). Compared with the YOLOv8s-seg baseline model, these metrics show improvements of 2.6%, 3.8%, 5.1%, 3.3%, and 6.8 M, respectively. Ablation experiments demonstrate that the improved architecture contributes significantly to performance gains, with combined improvements yielding optimal results. The analysis of detection performance videos under different cultivation patterns demonstrates the generalizability of the improved model in complex environments, achieving an optimal balance between detection accuracy (86.9%) and inference speed (53.2 fps). This study provides a reliable technical solution for the selective harvesting of greenhouse tomatoes. Full article

Rock slopes exhibiting anti-inclined interbedded strata have widespread distribution and complex deformation mechanisms. In this study, we used a physical model test with basal friction to replicate the evolution process of the slope deformation. Digital Image Correlation (DIC) and Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) methods were used to capture the variation in slope velocity and displacement fields. The results show that the slope deformation is conducted by bending of soft rock layers and accumulated overturning of hard blocks along numerous cross joints. As the faces of the rock columns come back into contact, the motion of the slope can progressively stabilize. Destruction of the toe blocks triggers the formation of the landslides within the toppling zone. The toppling fracture zones form by tracing tensile fractures within soft rocks and cross joints within hard rocks, ultimately transforming into a failure surface which is located above the hinge surface of the toppling motion. The evolution of the slope deformation mainly undergoes four stages: the initial shearing, the free rotation, the creep, and the progressive failure stages. Full article

Electrospun fibers, possessing biomimetic characteristics similar to fibrous extracellular matrices, have attracted widespread attention as scaffold materials for skin tissue engineering. The topographical structure of electrospun fibers plays a critical role in determining cell behavior. However, the effects of fiber topography on human skin fibroblasts (HSFs) remain unclear. In this study, electrospinning technology was employed to investigate how parallel and crossed fiber architectures influence the spreading morphology, proliferation, and migration of HSFs. The results demonstrated that cells exhibited spindle-shaped elongation along single fibers; on closely spaced parallel fibers, cells formed cross-adhesions between adjacent fibers, with a fiber spacing of 30–60 μm serving as the threshold range for distinguishing individual cell behaviors. At fiber intersections, a characteristic spacing of 100 μm distinguished three distinct cellular responses: anchoring, turning, and bridging. The probability of a cell altering its preexisting migration path depended on its ability to extend laterally and reach adjacent fibers, which was constrained by the upper limit of the cell body’s minor axis. This study elucidated the unique role of the electrospun fiber topography in guiding cellular decision-making in complex microenvironments, provided important insights into topography-triggered cell migration, and highlighted the practical significance of material-guided strategies in tissue engineering. Carbapenem-resistant hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae (CR-hvKp), a pathogen causing severe nosocomial infections and high mortality rates, is increasingly becoming a serious global public health threat. Capsular polysaccharide (CPS), a major virulence factor of hvKp, can be enzymatically degraded by bacteriophage-derived depolymerases. However, to our knowledge, depolymerases targeting K. pneumoniae K54-type strains have rarely been identified. Here, we identified and characterized three novel capsule depolymerases, Dep_C, Dep_Y, and Dep_Z, derived from three different K. pneumoniae phages, which retained robust activity across a broad pH range (pH 3.0–12.0) and demonstrated thermal stability up to 50 °C. These depolymerases could efficiently digest the CPS of K. pneumoniae K54-serotype strains, significantly inhibit biofilm formation, and remove their mature biofilms. Although no bactericidal activity was detected, these depolymerases rendered host bacteria susceptible to serum complement-mediated killing. We further demonstrate that Dep_C, Dep_Y, and Dep_Z can effectively and significantly prolong the survival time of mice in a pneumonia model infected with K54-type K. pneumoniae and reduce the colonization and virulence of the bacteria in the mice. These findings indicate that depolymerases Dep_C, Dep_Y, and Dep_Z could increase bacterial susceptibility to host immune responses of hvKp to the host through their degradation effect on the CPS. In conclusion, our study demonstrates that the three capsule depolymerases are promising antivirulent agents to combat CR-hvKp infections. Full article

The development of secondary hair follicles in cashmere goats directly influences the yield and quality of cashmere, and hair follicle morphogenesis is a complex biological process involving multiple signaling pathways and regulatory factors. In recent years, the regulatory role of long non-coding RNAs in hair follicle development has gradually been uncovered. Based on a previously established transcriptome database of embryonic skin tissue from cashmere goats, this study ultimately identified lncRNA MRPS28, which exhibits significant differential expression during the morphogenesis of secondary hair follicles. Our results indicate that lncRNA MRPS28 is a non-coding RNA transcribed from the intron region of the MRPS28 gene. Additionally, it can inhibit the proliferation and migration of dermal fibroblasts while promoting their apoptosis. Further mechanistic studies have shown that lncRNA MRPS28 acts as a competing endogenous RNA, sponging chi-miR-145-5p, thereby relieving its inhibitory effect on the target gene NUAK1. This, in turn, inhibits the formation of dermal papilla structures and ultimately affects the morphogenesis of secondary hair follicles during the embryonic period. This study provides a novel perspective on dissecting the regulatory network of hair follicle development in cashmere goats and offers potential theoretical insights for breeding new strains of cashmere goats. In order to enhance the management and application of fault knowledge within intelligent production lines, thereby increasing the efficiency of fault diagnosis and ensuring the stable and reliable operation of these systems, we propose a fault diagnosis methodology that leverages knowledge graphs. First, we designed an ontology model for fault knowledge by integrating textual features from various components of the production line with expert insights. Second, we employed the ALBERT–BiLSTM–Attention–CRF model to achieve named entity and relationship recognition for faults in intelligent production lines. The introduction of the ALBERT model resulted in a 7.3% improvement in the F1 score compared to the BiLSTM–CRF model. Additionally, incorporating the attention mechanism in relationship extraction led to a 7.37% increase in the F1 score. Finally, we utilized the Neo4j graph database to facilitate the storage and visualization of fault knowledge, validating the effectiveness of our proposed method through a case study on fault diagnosis in CNC machining centers. The research findings indicate that this method excels in recognizing textual entities and relationships related to faults in intelligent production lines, effectively leveraging prior knowledge of faults across various components and elucidating their causes. This approach provides maintenance personnel with an intuitive tool for fault diagnosis and decision support, thereby enhancing diagnostic accuracy and efficiency. Full article

This study focused on the preparation of poly(ε-caprolactone)/carbon nanotubes (PCL/CNTs) composite membranes via electrospinning technology and investigated their performance in oil–water separation. The effects of varying CNTs contents and spinning parameters on the structure and properties of the membrane materials were systematically studied. A highly uniform diameter distribution of the PCL fiber was achieved by using the dichloromethane/dimethylformamide (DCM/DMF) composite solvent with volume ratio of 7:3, as well as a PCL concentration of ca. 17 wt.%. The optimal electrospinning parameters were identified as an applied voltage of 18 kV and a syringe pump flow rate of 1 mL·h−1, which collectively ensured uniform fiber morphology under the specified processing conditions. The critical threshold concentration of CNTs in the composite system was determined to be 1 wt.%, above which the composite fibers exhibit a significant increase in diameter heterogeneity. Both pristine PCL fibrous membranes and PCL/CNTs composite membranes demonstrated excellent and stable oil–water separation performance, with separation efficiencies consistently around 90%. Notably, no significant attenuation in separation efficiency was observed after ten consecutive separation cycles. Furthermore, when incorporating 0.5 wt.% CNTs, the PCL/CNT composite membranes exhibited a 20% increase in separation flux for heavy oils compared to pristine PCL membranes. Additionally, CNTs, as a prototypical class of nanofillers for polymer matrix reinforcement, can potentially enhance the mechanical properties of composite films, thus effectively prolonging their service life. The ecological consequences of the construction and operation of the Three Gorges Reservoir, particularly its unique operation strategy of storing clear water and releasing turbid water, exerts a profound influence on the composition and dynamics of local fish communities. To date, detailed and comprehensive research on seasonal changes in the fish community across the entire reservoir remains scarce. This study aims to fill this research gap by systematically investigating fish diversity through a comprehensive assessment of six main river reaches and eight major tributaries. The investigation employs environmental DNA (eDNA) technology across three critical life-cycle stages: breeding, feeding, and overwintering periods. A total of 124 fish species were recorded, comprising 10 orders, 20 families, and 80 genera. The comparative analyses of historical data suggest a significant decline in lotic and endemic fish populations, accompanied by a concurrent increase in lentic, eurytopic, and non-native fish species. Notably, the composition of fish communities exhibited similarities between breeding and overwintering periods. This study highlights the occurrence of significant seasonal fluctuations in the fish communities, showing a preference for reservoir tails and tributaries as optimal habitats. Water temperature has a predominant influence on structuring fish communities within aquatic ecosystems. This study investigates variations in the biodiversity of fish communities using historical data, with a focus on changes linked to reservoir operations and water impoundment activities. By integrating historical data, this research examines changes in fish diversity that are associated with water storage processes. It provides foundational data on the current composition and diversity of fish communities within the watershed, elucidating the spatiotemporal variations in fish diversity and the mechanisms by which environmental factors influence these communities. Furthermore, the current study serves as a valuable reference for understanding the changes in fish communities within other large reservoirs. Full article

As global plastic production increases, the problem of marine plastic pollution is becoming increasingly critical, and the development of effective identification technologies is particularly urgent as plastic debris not only poses a threat to aquatic ecosystems but also has a significant impact on human health. This paper presents the criteria for evaluating fluorescence technology and its mechanism for plastic identification, with an emphasis on its potential for the rapid detection of marine plastic pollution. By analyzing variations in the fluorescence lifetimes and intensities of plastics, different types of plastics can be effectively distinguished. In addition, this paper reviews the detection of microplastics using different fluorescent dyes and explores the fluorescence lifetime identification method. This paper also demonstrates the effectiveness of fluorescence techniques for macroplastic identification, highlighting how fluorescence lifetimes and decay rates change in various weathering environments. Monitoring these changes offers a foundation for establishing weathering models, aiding in understanding the transformation of macrolitter into microplastics. Future research should investigate the autofluorescence properties of different plastics further and focus on developing detection methods and instruments for various environments. This will improve the identification of plastic waste in complex environments. In conclusion, fluorescence technology shows great promise in plastic identification and is expected to provide substantial support for recycling plastic waste products and mitigating plastic pollution. Plant-specific WUSCHEL (WUS)-related homeobox (WOX) family of transcription factors are involved in apical meristem maintenance, embryogenesis, lateral organ development, and hormone signaling. Among the members of this family, WOX1 is known to play essential roles in many species. However, the function of the peony ‘Feng Dan’ (Paeonia ostii L.) WOX1 (PoWOX1) remains unknown. The initial bioinformatic analysis revealed that PoWOX1 belongs to the modern clade of the WOX gene family and has a highly conserved homeodomain (HD), the WUS motif, the STF-box, and the MAEWEST/WOX4-box. Subsequent heterologous overexpression in Arabidopsis thaliana revealed that PoWOX1 promotes root growth, early shoot initiation, and flowering. The root vascular tissues, especially the arrangement and size of xylem cells, were different between the PoWOX1-overexpressing transgenics and the wild-type plants, and the pericycle cells adjacent to the xylem divided more easily in the transgenics than in the wild type. Furthermore, under in vitro conditions, the transgenic leaf explants exhibited more callus induction and differentiation than the wild-type leaf explants. Thus, the study’s findings provide novel insights into the role of PoWOX1 in promoting root development and callus tissue induction and differentiation, serving as a reference for developing an efficient regeneration system for the peony.
