Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Mycotoxins, toxic secondary metabolites produced by fungi, continue to pose a major global challenge due to their widespread occurrence and significant impact on food safety, animal and human health, and agricultural sustainability. In recent years, increasing attention has been given to the complex and dynamic nature of mycotoxin contamination, driven by factors such as climate change, evolving agricultural practices, and globalized food supply chains.
In this context, there is a growing need for innovative analytical strategies, improved monitoring approaches, and more comprehensive frameworks for exposure and risk assessment to better understand and manage mycotoxin-related risks.
Following the first edition of this Special Issue, this second edition aims to further advance the field by integrating recent developments in mycotoxin contamination, analytical detection, exposure assessment, and risk evaluation, with particular emphasis on emerging challenges and integrated approaches across the food and feed chain.
This Special Issue welcomes contributions that address, but are not limited to:
- Advances in analytical methods for mycotoxin detection (e.g., LC-MS-based approaches, high-resolution screening);
- Multi-mycotoxin contamination and co-occurrence patterns;
- Exposure assessment and biomonitoring studies;
- Risk assessment methodologies and regulatory perspectives;
- The impact of environmental and climate-related factors on mycotoxin occurrence;
- Sustainable and green analytical strategies.
Submissions of original research articles and comprehensive reviews that contribute to a deeper understanding of mycotoxin contamination and support improved risk management strategies in food and feed systems are encouraged.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a double-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Toxins is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
