High-Resolution Soil Moisture Products for Hydrology, Agriculture, and Hazard Applications

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Soil moisture is an essential component of the Earth's hydrological and energy cycles, profoundly affecting processes such as infiltration, runoff, evapotranspiration, and plant growth. High-resolution soil moisture data are essential for capturing spatial and temporal variability at scales relevant to hydrology, agriculture, and hazard management. Recent advancements in remote sensing technologies, data assimilation techniques, and computational modeling have facilitated the development of high-resolution soil moisture products. These innovations enhance our ability to monitor and predict hydrological phenomena, optimize agricultural practices, and manage natural hazards like floods, droughts, and landslides.

The aim of this Special Issue is to showcase cutting-edge research on the development and application of high-resolution soil moisture products. This includes the use of multi-sensor data, machine learning techniques, and integrated approaches that improve the accuracy and spatial detail of soil moisture products for various applications, such as hydrology, precision agriculture, and hazard assessment. This Special Issue encourages submissions that align with the journal’s scope of advancing remote sensing technologies and applications across multiple fields.

  • Advances in high-resolution soil moisture retrieval techniques from remote sensing data;
  • Data fusion methods combining satellite, airborne, and in situ observations;
  • The validation and calibration of soil moisture products using ground measurements;
  • The integration of high-resolution soil moisture data into hydrological and agricultural models;
  • Applications in drought and flood monitoring, early warning systems, and hazard risk assessment;

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Remote Sensing is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
