Earth Observations in Geomorphology: Sedimentology and Stratigraphy

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Sedimentation processes and different stratigraphic features have a major influence on landscape evolution. Through a series of complex interaction processes, including erosion, transport, and deposition, and under the influence of different tectonic settings and climatic conditions, new landscapes are formed and existing landscapes are modified at different spatial and temporal scales. With the help of sedimentological and stratigraphic research, we can not only decipher the main formation mechanisms of landforms, but also reconstruct historical geological landforms and their evolution dynamics. Remote sensing technology provides us with a powerful tool for studying landscape evolution and is widely applied to the study of sedimentary/ erosion processes in continental and marine environments.

This Special Issue aims to document research in sedimentology, stratigraphy, geologic mapping, and marine geomorphologic evolution in the context of various structural settings. Topics include, but are not limited to, (a) reconstruction of the paleoenvironment based on sedimentological and stratigraphic analyses, and (b) geological/geomorphological evolution due to sea-level changes, earthquakes, volcanoes, and anthropogenic factors.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Remote Sensing is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
