Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The conservation and utilization of plant genetic resources are fundamental for ensuring food security, agricultural sustainability, and resilience to global climate change. Understanding patterns of genetic diversity and quantitative trait variation within and among plant populations provides essential knowledge for the conservation, management, and genetic improvement of cultivated and wild plant species.

This Special Issue aims to bring together original research articles, reviews, and communications that explore the genetic and phenotypic diversity of plants using classical, molecular, genomic, and quantitative genetic approaches. Contributions addressing the characterization of germplasm collections, landraces, breeding populations, and wild relatives are particularly welcome. Moreover, studies focusing on quantitative trait variation, genotype–environment interactions, adaptation to biotic and abiotic stresses, genetic mapping, association studies, genomic selection, and the conservation of plant genetic resources are encouraged.

We also invite submissions investigating the application of genetic diversity in plant breeding programs, including the identification of superior genotypes, combining ability, heterosis, trait inheritance, and the development of climate-resilient cultivars. By integrating advances in genetics, genomics, phenomics, and breeding, this Special Issue seeks to highlight innovative approaches for the sustainable use of plant biodiversity and crop breeding.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Plants is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
