Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In eukaryotes, oxygenic photosynthesis and mitochondrial respiration work together to maintain a sharp equilibrium. Research over recent decades has allowed us to understand conserved mechanisms among species, which laid the foundation for several biotechnological advances. Nevertheless, the rapid expansion of knowledge during recent years has brought to light that different evolutionary lineages have adapted their bioenergetics, giving rise to remarkable physiological and metabolic peculiarities among species, including several structural modifications.

To understand how these species may be useful for humankind, it is necessary to elucidate their metabolic routes, enzymatic components, supramolecular associations, molecular mechanisms, structural features, and related processes in order to consolidate our knowledge about these fantastic organisms.

In this forthcoming Special Issue, we aim to consolidate recent advances in both fundamental and applied research focused on understanding the mechanisms behind the two major bioenergetics processes that sustain life on Earth.

Manuscript Submission Information

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Plants is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
