Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue focuses on the application of hyperspectral imaging for advancing plant science. Hyperspectral imaging captures continuous spectral information across hundreds of narrow bands, enabling non‑destructive, spatially resolved analysis of plant biochemical, physiological and morphological traits. Contributions are invited on high‑throughput phenotyping for growth and yield prediction, early detection of biotic (pathogens, arthropod pests) and abiotic (drought, salinity, temperature) stresses, assessment of nutrient and water status and evaluation of crop quality. Methodological topics include novel hyperspectral imaging instrumentation, spectral preprocessing, machine learning for feature extraction and integration with other sensors (e.g., LiDAR, thermal imaging). Studies addressing scalability from leaf to canopy levels, field‑based or greenhouse deployments and practical applications in precision agriculture, breeding and ecological monitoring are particularly welcome. By bridging spectral complexity with plant biology, this issue aims to showcase hyperspectral imaging as a transformative tool for sustainable plant research.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Plants is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
