Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Diabetes mellitus and its related metabolic disorders remain among the most pressing health challenges worldwide because of their increasing prevalence and the heavy burden of associated complications. Over the past decade, remarkable pharmacological progress has transformed treatment strategies. Beyond improving glycemic control, novel therapies exert organ-protective benefits, particularly on the cardiovascular, renal, and hepatic systems. These effects are mediated in part by anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antifibrotic mechanisms, which expand the therapeutic goals of diabetes management. Sodium–glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RA) have become cornerstones of therapy, while next-generation dual agonists are already entering clinical use, and triple agonists targeting incretin and glucagon pathways are under active clinical investigation. These advances not only broaden treatment opportunities but also raise important questions regarding long-term safety, durability of organ protection across different agents, and their roles in obesity-related complications, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), and multimorbidity. This Special Issue, “New Advances in Drug Associations, Complications and Clinical Research of Diabetes and Related Diseases”, welcomes original research, clinical trials, observational studies, and comprehensive reviews addressing drug–disease interactions, complication risk modification, biomarker discovery, and translational insights bridging basic and clinical science.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
