Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Human milk is the optimal source of nutrition for infants, providing nutrients, bioactive compounds, immune factors and microorganisms that support growth, development and long-term health. Its composition varies across lactation stages and is influenced by maternal diet, lifestyle, metabolic status, microbiota and environmental exposures. Recent advances in omics technologies, including metabolomics, proteomics, lipidomics, glycomics and microbiome analysis, are offering new insights into the complexity and functional relevance of human milk.

This Special Issue aims to collect original research and review articles on the biological, nutritional and clinical aspects of human milk composition, with a focus on strategies to enhance breast milk quality. Topics of interest include maternal nutrition and supplementation, bioactive milk components, donor human milk, personalized approaches during lactation and the relationship between milk composition and infant health outcomes. By bringing together multidisciplinary contributions, this Special Issue seeks to advance knowledge and identify innovative strategies to optimize breastfeeding and infant nutrition.
