Personalized Nutrition and Cardiology

This special issue belongs to the section “Clinical Nutrition“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The relationship between food and health has long been recognised. It is well known that certain foods that have positive effect on health, while others have negative impacts. In addition to the effect of salt and foods high in cholesterol, in recent years, there has been growing research into diets such as the Mediterranean diet and foods with protective effects.

With a broader regulatory margin than that of medicines, this field has allowed the spread of a great deal of information lacking a scientific basis, sometimes driven with advertising.

The very high prevalence and mortality of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, their association with metabolic diseases such as diabetes, their increasing incidence and prevalence, and the high costs associated with addressing these diseases reinforce the importance of the pillars of a healthy life, among which is food.

Personalised nutrition is also an avenue of research in an era of personalised medicine. Contributing to the clarification and elucidation of the mechanisms associated with the impact of food on health status, as well as the best strategies for implementing health-promoting practices through food, is an area of interest of the utmost relevance in current times, which is why this Special Issue, “Personalized Nutrition and Cardiology”, is so important.
