Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
We are delighted to invite you to contribute to the Special Issue, titled “Natural and Synthetic Bioactive Compounds for Skin Health and Management”, with the aim of publishing innovative research exploring the role of natural and synthetic bioactives in skin health and management. This editorial initiative provides a rare opportunity to share your findings, expand knowledge in this rapidly evolving field, and collaborate with experts from diverse disciplines.
Background and Relevance of the Special Issue
The skin, our largest organ, plays a crucial role in protecting the body and maintaining homeostasis. However, environmental, genetic, and pathological factors can compromise its function, necessitating effective solutions to preserve its health and manage dermatological conditions. In this context, natural and synthetic bioactives are emerging as promising tools for enhancing skin health due to their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, regenerative, and protective properties.
This Special Issue aims to explore the potential of bioactive molecules derived from natural sources (such as plant extracts, peptides, or secondary metabolites) to address dermatological challenges such as skin aging, inflammatory skin diseases, UV radiation damage, and more. The synergy between traditional approaches and innovative strategies offers a fascinating landscape that deserves in-depth exploration.
Topics of Interest
We welcome original research articles and review papers on a wide range of topics related to the theme of the Special Issue, including:
- Natural bioactives: Identification, characterization, and mechanisms of action of compounds extracted from plants, algae, fungi, or other natural sources with beneficial skin effects. Natural bioactives derived from agricultural and food waste are also highly relevant according to their environmental impact.
- Clinical applications: Preclinical or clinical studies on the effectiveness of bioactives in preventing or treating skin conditions.
- Combined approaches: Synergies between natural and synthetic bioactives to optimize therapeutic outcomes.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Nutrients is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
