Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Aluminum and aluminum alloys have been consistently attracting attention over recent decades. They have low density and high specific properties and are widely used in a variety of fields including aerospace, marine, automotive and building industries. Furthermore, the increasing legislations and awareness of environmental issues have led to more attention being given to aluminum alloys, which can contribute to a significant decrease in energy consumption and CO2 emissions. Casting is one of the most important and effective methods to produce shaped and sound metal components with controlled properties. Additive manufacturing technologies enable additional tailoring of the microstructure of alloys and the design of new combinations of properties. It is necessary to have a better understanding of the critical processes involved and of the microstructure and properties caused by these processes. More research should be done to better characterize changes of aluminum alloys under a variety of conditions and compositions.

This Special Issue focuses on the microstructure and properties of aluminum alloys during casting and additive manufacturing. Review and original research manuscripts related to microstructure, mechanical properties, corrosion behavior, casting and additive manufacturing are welcome. It is hoped that this open-access Special Issue will provide a place for anyone to familiarize themselves with the current state of the art in aluminum alloys.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Metals is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
