SURMOFs Modified Materials for Biological and Technical Applications

This special issue belongs to the section “Membrane Applications“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Porous coordination polymers (PCPs) or metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are highly porous crystalline hybrid materials, which are composed of a combination of inorganic metal ions and organic polytopic complex linkers linked to each other by strong coordination bonds. These hybrid architectures exhibit a great variety of composition and topologies leading to large pore volume and surface area. The high and regular porosities, pore size and shape tunability, and the internal amphiphilic microenvironment make MOFs excellent candidates for several industrial applications.

However, a number of other emerging applications exploiting the electrical and optical properties of MOFs require high-quality monolithic, pinhole-free thin films supported on solid substrates, in other words, surface-supported metal–organic frameworks (SURMOFs), including coatings on fibers. Well-defined thin films are also required for the fabrication of membranes for gas-phase or liquid separation, the construction of sensor devices, the fabrication of optical, photovoltaic, and electronic devices, as well as the use of MOF thin films in electrochemical applications.

For this Special Issue on “SURMOFs-Modified Materials for Biological and Technical Applications”, we invite contributions in the broad field of pure and/or hybrid SURMOFs and MOF-based membranes. We seek submissions with an original perspective and advanced thinking relevant to this field. Both experimental and computational studies are welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Membranes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2200 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
