Skin Cancer: Advances in Early Diagnosis and Treatment

This special issue belongs to the section “Dermatology“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Skin cancer represents a global health challenge, with incidence rates steadily rising. While an early diagnosis remains critical, successful treatment following diagnosis is equally essential to improving patient outcomes and survival rates. Despite advances in therapies, the prognosis of skin cancer relies on early detection, effective treatment, and tailored approaches. Many cases are still diagnosed at advanced stages due to limited access to specialists, variability in clinical assessments, and the low awareness of the public.

This Special Issue addresses the urgent need for research and innovation to enhance the early diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer. From a multidisciplinary perspective, we aim to advance the understanding of diagnostic techniques, refine criteria, and explore novel approaches to reducing diagnostic delays and improving therapeutic options. Contributions examining new biomarkers, screening models, and targeted treatments for improved clinical outcomes are highly encouraged.

A promising line of research focuses on integrating new technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, into skin cancer diagnostics and treatment planning. Recent advances demonstrate that AI may support diagnosis and treatment decisions. Other key areas of interest include the development of bedside diagnostic devices, predictive models of cancer progression, and public health initiatives to raise awareness and encourage self-examinations. With this Special Issue, we aim to present cutting-edge research that not only deepens our understanding of skin cancer but also fosters practical applications for improved early diagnosis, effective treatment, and better patient outcomes.

We invite researchers to submit findings, reviews, and innovative perspectives that contribute to a comprehensive resource for advancing both diagnosis and treatment in skin cancer care.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Medicina is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2200 CHF (Swiss Francs).
