Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Endometriosis is a chronic, estrogen-dependent inflammatory disorder associated with pain, infertility, and significant impairment of daily functioning. Its pathogenesis is still poorly defined, with genetic interactions, immune dysfunction, and environmental influences contributing in complex and not fully elucidated ways. This lack of clarity continues to hinder progress in diagnosis and management.

Treatment strategies for endometriosis are diverse, reflecting the heterogeneity of the disease. Medical therapies, including hormonal agents and analgesics, remain essential for symptom control yet are often limited by tolerability and incomplete responses. Surgical approaches, particularly minimally invasive techniques, can provide symptom relief and improve reproductive outcomes, but they require advanced expertise and carry the risk of recurrence or complications. Importantly, neither medical nor surgical management represents a definitive solution, and many patients continue to experience persistent or recurrent symptoms despite treatment. This underscores the need for individualized, patient-centered strategies that balance benefits and risks while addressing long-term outcomes.

Given its complexity, endometriosis care increasingly relies on a multidisciplinary approach that integrates gynecology, reproductive medicine, pain management, psychology, and allied health disciplines.

This Special Issue, titled “Endometriosis: Surgical, Medical, and Multidisciplinary Challenges”, invites contributions that advance understanding across these domains. We welcome clinical and preclinical studies, systematic reviews, randomized controlled trials, experimental models, and qualitative or mixed methods research exploring unmet needs, barriers, and priorities for future progress.
