Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

It is our pleasure to invite you to contribute to the Special Issue entitled “Physiotherapy in Musculoskeletal Pain: Assessment and Management—2nd Edition”. This volume represents the continuation of our previous Special Issue, in which six papers were published in the first edition. For more details, please visit the following link:

Musculoskeletal pain is a prevalent health issue worldwide, affecting millions of people across all age groups. This type of pain, which includes conditions such as arthritis, low back pain and sports-related injuries, has become a leading cause of disability and work absenteeism. According to the World Health Organization, it is estimated that up to 20–33% of the global population experiences some form of musculoskeletal condition, underscoring the magnitude of this problem. Recent studies indicate that the incidence of these conditions is increasing, particularly as a result of population aging and the growing prevalence of risk factors such as obesity and sedentary lifestyles.

The importance of rehabilitation in the management of musculoskeletal pain is undeniable. Rehabilitation not only contributes to pain reduction but also improves patient functionality and overall quality of life. Evidence demonstrates that well-designed rehabilitation programs can significantly reduce pain and disability, enabling individuals to resume daily and work activities. Continued research in this field is therefore essential for the development of more effective and accessible interventions, the optimization of therapeutic outcomes, and the reduction of the socioeconomic burden associated with musculoskeletal pain. Investment in research and the advancement rehabilitation remains an urgent priority in addressing this growing global health challenge.

The primary objective of this Special Issue of Medicina is to present recent advances in the assessment and management of musculoskeletal conditions. This Special Issue welcomes studies on the evaluation of patients with musculoskeletal disorders, the development and application of conservative interventions for musculoskeletal pain, the validation of new assessment tools in this population, and systematic reviews and meta-analyses related to these topics.

In particular, submitted manuscripts are encouraged to address one or more of the following areas:

  • Assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal problems;
  • Application of new technologies in the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal pain;
  • Use of mental representation techniques, therapeutic education, therapeutic exercise, and/or manual therapy for the treatment of musculoskeletal pain;
  • Analysis and conservative treatment of other pathological conditions involving pain.

Authors are invited to submit clinical outcome studies, comparative studies, articles, reviews, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses addressing new advances in the assessment and treatment of these patients.
