Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

For many decades, discrete event simulation (DES) has been extensively studied and used in the design of many complex systems, with uses ranging from healthcare to manufacturing to social systems. In more recent years, the popularity and usage of agent-based simulation (ABS) increased, augmenting (and, in some cases, supplanting) DES applications. Improvements in information and computer technologies, together with new tools and techniques, have increased the use of these approaches to modeling and expanded their application venues. Simulation approaches are particularly critical, with the Internet of Things and cloud computing providing automation-rich environments. Intelligent traffic systems, automated manufacturing, elastic and responsive computing infrastructure, social media proliferation, logistic systems, building and resident control systems, business workflows, and many other application areas provide a fertile ground for investigation. This Special Issue aims to establish a collection of relevant articles that reflect the breadth of application and thought regarding both discrete-event and agent-based simulation.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Mathematics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
