Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Modern industrial systems are increasingly marked by high levels of complexity and uncertainty, large-scale data generation, and a tight coupling between physical processes and computational intelligence. Within this landscape, fuzzy systems continue to play a significant role by providing mathematical frameworks for modeling uncertainty, control, decision-making, and related real-world problems. Their relevance is particularly evident in smart industrial environments and cyber–physical systems, where fuzzy-based approaches enable interpretable, adaptive, evolving, and resilient solutions capable of addressing dynamic and uncertain operating conditions.
This Special Issue invites researchers and practitioners to share their work on theoretical advances, methodological developments, and industrial applications of fuzzy systems, with a focus on their mathematical foundation and practical value. We embrace contributions that combine rigor with real-world relevance and that highlight interdisciplinary collaboration across mathematics, engineering, and the applied sciences.
The following topics are welcome (among other related areas):
- Mathematical and theoretical foundations of fuzzy sets and systems;
- Fuzzy modeling, identification, and approximation theory;
- Fuzzy clustering, classification, and data analysis;
- Fuzzy evolving systems;
- Fuzzy optimization and decision-making frameworks;
- Hybrid neuro-fuzzy systems and integration with machine learning/statistics;
- Fuzzy control, adaptive fuzzy control, and evolving control methodologies;
- Mathematical methods for interpretability and explainability of fuzzy systems;
- Fuzzy fault diagnosis, condition monitoring, and predictive maintenance;
- Fuzzy systems in robotics and autonomous systems;
- Distributed, decentralized, and networked fuzzy control architectures;
- Applications and case studies demonstrating the practical impact of fuzzy systems in engineering, industry, and applied sciences.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Mathematics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
