Special Issue Information

The Special Issue "Latest Advances in Asphalt Materials in Modification and Performance Evaluation" aims to highlight cutting-edge research and technological innovations in the field of asphalt materials. This issue invites contributions focused on the development and application of novel modifiers, sustainable and recycled materials, and advanced technologies that enhance the mechanical, rheological, and durability performance of asphalt binders and mixtures. Emphasis is placed on experimental, theoretical, and modeling approaches that provide deeper insights into the behavior of modified asphalt under varying environmental and loading conditions. The scope includes, but is not limited to, polymer and bio-based modifications, nanomaterials, rejuvenators, recycled pavement technologies, aging resistance, and performance prediction methods. Researchers, engineers, and practitioners are encouraged to submit original studies, reviews, and case applications that contribute to the development of more durable, sustainable, and high-performing asphalt pavements. This Special Issue aims to serve as a comprehensive resource for the latest trends and methodologies in asphalt material science and engineering.

We invite you to contribute to the upcoming Special Issue titled "Latest Advances in Asphalt Materials in Modification and Performance Evaluation", which seeks to showcase the most recent developments and research in the design, modification, and performance assessment of asphalt materials. This Special Issue welcomes original research articles, reviews, and case studies focusing on innovative materials and technologies aimed at enhancing the performance and sustainability of asphalt binders and mixtures. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Polymer-, bio-, and nano-modified asphalts
  • Rejuvenators and recycling technologies
  • Aging, moisture damage, and cracking resistance
  • Performance evaluation methods (laboratory and field)
  • Mechanistic-empirical modeling and life-cycle assessment
  • Smart materials and data-driven design approaches

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
