Dear Colleagues,
Additive manufacturing (AM) has revolutionized the design and fabrication of advanced materials and engineering components across the aerospace, biomedical, energy, and automotive sectors. Despite significant progress in AM technologies, the surface characteristics of additively manufactured materials remain critical determinants of their performance, influencing mechanical behavior, corrosion resistance, tribological properties, biocompatibility, and long-term reliability. As AM continues to transition from prototyping to large-scale industrial applications, there is a growing need for comprehensive studies that correlate processing conditions, surface evolution, microstructural characteristics, and functional performance. Multiscale surface analysis has emerged as an indispensable tool for elucidating these relationships, enabling the development of next-generation materials with tailored surface properties.
This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate the latest advances in multiscale surface analysis of additively manufactured materials. We welcome contributions addressing fundamental and applied aspects of surface characterization, surface modification, and structure–property relationships in metallic, ceramic, polymeric, and composite AM materials.
Topics of interest for publication include the following:
