Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

I invite you to submit a manuscript to this Special Issue on engine lubricants. While it may be easy to convey the concept that good engine performance can be attributed to minimizing energy lost to friction, this has rarely been appreciated in public or scientific discourse. Outside of tribologists and lubrication specialists, few scientists give much thought to the fact that lubricating engines may reduce the amount of energy they consume. Besides, in public or technical discussions related to the environmentally deleterious effects of gas emissions and waste generated by the operation of various engines, rarely do we hear or read about the reduction of friction and the extension of engine life by upgraded lubricants as key techniques for protecting soil, water, and air. Furthermore, within the science and engineering research literature, the portion of papers relating to lubrication and tribology severely underrepresents the amount of relevant research and development that takes place in industry and does not reflect the important role lubricants play in the operation of engines in industry and in everyday life.

This Special Issue of Lubricants will publish papers on all aspects of engine lubrication and lubricants, ranging from favorable tribological conditions for engine operation to novel lubricant formulations that may not have been tested yet in the field. Some papers will be very specific, e.g., on such subjects as exploiting the action of particular lubricant additives for preventing corrosion and wear, and optimizing acid neutralization by lubricants. Others will present results of large-scale studies on lubricant performance in engine tests. Review papers of either a narrow or a general scope will also be entertained, though it is recommended that you let us know beforehand so we may plan the topics accordingly. Finally, it is hoped to attract quality opinion pieces on engine lubricants, which will underscore the attention and challenges that need to be brought to the field.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Lubricants is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
