Lubricants 2024 Best Paper Award
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the “Lubricants 2024 Best Paper Award” for research and review articles published in Lubricants from 1 January 2022 and 31 December 2022. One review and one research article will receive an award each. The papers will be selected after a thorough evaluation by the Journal Award Committee led by the Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Dr. Homer Rahnejat.
Eligibility for the Award:
- Papers published in Lubricants from 1 January 2022 and 31 December 2022;
- Open to all career levels;
- Both regular and Special Issue submissions will be considered.
Selection Criteria:
The papers will be selected by the Journal Award Committee according to the following criteria:
- Scientific merit and broad impact;
- Originality of the research objectives and/or the ideas presented;
- Creativity of the study design or uniqueness of the approaches and concepts;
- Clarity of presentation;
- Citations and downloads.
The Prize:
- One review award: CHF 300 and a chance to publish a paper free of charge in Lubricants in 2024 after peer review;
- One research article award: CHF 300 and a chance to publish a paper free of charge in Lubricants in 2024 after peer review.
- Each winner will also receive a certificate.
The winners will be announced on the journal website in March 2024.

Lubricants 2023 Best Paper Award
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the winners of the “Lubricants 2023 Best Paper Award”. All papers published between 1 January 2021 and 31 December 2021 in Lubricants were considered for the award. After a thorough evaluation of the originality and significance of the papers, citations, and downloads, the two winning papers, which were nominated by an assessment committee and approved by the Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Dr. Homer Rahnejat, were selected.

Lubricants 2019 Osborne Reynolds Travel Award
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Evaluation Committee, I am pleased to announce the winner of Lubricants Travel Award—Osborne Reynolds Travel Award 2019.
This award was bestowed upon Francesco Lavini, a Ph.D. student in Professor Elisa Riedo’s group at New York University. He is planning to present his work “Friction and Work Function Oscillatory Behavior for an Even and Odd Number of Layers in Polycrystalline MoS2” at the 2nd Korea-Tribology International Symposium (K-TRIB2020), Korea.
This award contributes 500 Swiss Francs towards attending this conference. This was a difficult decision; high-quality applications were made for this award, and we would like to thank all the applicants for submitting their diverse and thought-provoking presentations. This award was bestowed upon Binbin Zhang, a Ph.D. student in Professor C.H. Venner’s group at University of Twente. He is planning to present his work “EHL Modeling of Anisotropic Material for Point Contacts” at the 46th Leeds-Lyon Symposium on Tribology, France.

Lubricants 2018 Osborne Reynolds Travel Award

On behalf of the Evaluation Committee, I am pleased to announce the winner of Lubricants Travel Award —Osborne Reynolds Travel Award 2018.
This award was bestowed upon Romain Lhermerout, a Postdoctoral researcher in Professor Susan Perkin’s group at University of Oxford, whose research focuses on the electrostatic interactions and friction across ionic liquids confined in a molecular scale. He is planning to present his work “External and Reversible Control of Friction Across Nanofilms” at the Molecular Mechanisms in Tribology Symposium in Potsdam, Germany.
This award contributes 600 Swiss Francs towards attending this conference.

Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Evaluation Committee, I am pleased to announce the winner of Lubricants Travel Award—Duncan Dowson Travel Award 2018.
This award was bestowed upon Thomas Lohner, a Postdoctoral researcher in Professor Karsten Stahl’s group at Technical University of Munich, whose research focuses on TEHL contacts of gears. He is planning to present his works “Measurement of EHL Contact Temperature by Thin Film Sensors— Thermal Insulation Effects” at the Leeds-Lyon Symposium on Tribology 2018 in Leeds, UK.
