Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Plants are among the most important sources of bioactive compounds that contribute significantly to human health, nutrition, and sustainable development. Advances in phytochemistry, analytical techniques, biotechnology, and molecular sciences have accelerated the discovery and characterization of plant-derived metabolites with antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, cardioprotective, and other health-promoting properties. These findings have stimulated growing interest in the development of innovative plant-based products and functional ingredients for applications in the food, nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology sectors.
This Special Issue aims to provide a multidisciplinary platform for presenting the latest advances in the discovery, characterization, biological evaluation, and functional applications of bioactive plant compounds. It welcomes studies that enhance our understanding of the chemical diversity, biological mechanisms, and practical utilization of plant-derived bioactive molecules, while promoting sustainable approaches to the valorization of plant resources and plant-derived by-products. The Special Issue is fully aligned with the scope of the plant section of Life, encouraging contributions that bridge plant science with food science, biotechnology, and health-related research.
Original research articles and comprehensive reviews are welcome. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following: phytochemistry; plant secondary metabolites; medicinal and edible plants; plant extracts and their biological activities; innovative and green extraction techniques; advanced analytical techniques; functional foods and nutraceuticals; natural antioxidants; plant biotechnology; metabolomics; food quality and safety; bioavailability and mechanisms of action of plant-derived compounds; and the sustainable utilization of plant resources.
We look forward to receiving your valuable contributions and to presenting recent advances in bioactive plant compounds and their functional applications.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Life is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
