Dear Colleagues,
Metabolic dysfunction refers to a cluster of interrelated abnormalities—including insulin resistance, central obesity, dyslipidemia, and hypertension—that together substantially increase cardiovascular risk. These disturbances promote chronic low-grade inflammation, endothelial dysfunction, and abnormal lipid metabolism, all of which accelerate atherosclerosis and impair vascular health. Insulin resistance and excess visceral adiposity contribute to elevated glucose and free fatty acids, fostering oxidative stress and plaque formation in blood vessels. Over time, these processes heighten the likelihood of coronary artery disease, stroke, and heart failure. As a result, early identification and management of metabolic dysfunction through lifestyle modification and, when necessary, pharmacologic intervention are critical strategies for reducing long-term cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.
This Special Issue aims to integrate basic science with clinical relevance, demonstrating how understanding molecular mechanisms of metabolic dysfunction can guide effective strategies to reduce cardiovascular risk.
We are pleased and honored to invite researchers to submit all types of papers, including original, narrative, and systematic reviews, to this Special Issue to widen our knowledge of this topic.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Life is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
