Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are seeking original research and review manuscripts for the Special Issue “Interdisciplinary Innovation of AI-Driven Smart Agriculture”. Global food security, climate change, and low-carbon farming drive the application of artificial intelligence, computer vision and big data to address biological challenges in plants and animal production. Yet agricultural biology research faces various challenges, including heterogeneous phenotypic data, limited utilization of multi-omics resources, and the shortage of interdisciplinary talent bridging computational tools and biological experiments. Merging computational approaches with plants protection, horticulture, animal husbandry, and aquaculture is key to advancing modern agricultural biology. Therefore, cross-disciplinary research empowered by artificial intelligence in agriculture bears great strategic significance.

This Special Issue aims to collect cutting-edge research combining computational intelligence with agricultural biological research, in line with the journal’s scope of plant and animal biology, plants improvement, disease resistance and sustainable agricultural biological research. It bridges gaps between computational tools and agricultural biology, covering biological phenotype datasets, AI-assisted analytical models for plant–animal growth and stress responses, and field-validated biological application schemes. It also provides a platform for researchers to share reproducible AI-supported biological findings related to plants production, horticulture, livestock breeding, aquaculture and low-carbon agro-biology.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

Topics include interpretable agricultural large models for plant and animal growth management; computer vision-based monitoring of plant and animal diseases and pests; high-throughput phenotyping-supported AI-driven breeding for plants and livestock; AI-assisted physiological analysis in precision aquaculture and animal husbandry; carbon–nitrogen modeling and AI-optimized microbial fertilizers; multi-omics data mining for agricultural organisms; and interdisciplinary research cases combining computational tools with agricultural biological experiments.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Life is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
