The Development and Evolution of Legumes

Dear Colleagues,

Leguminous plants have garnered significant attention from botanists and biologists due to their diverse morphology and intriguing biological phenomena, such as nitrogen fixation, leaf movement, and dual-type flowers. As the third-largest family of angiosperms, leguminous plants play crucial biological roles, with many leguminous crops serving as important sources of protein and oil for human consumption. In order to address current challenges related to climate change and food security, it is imperative to conduct further research on leguminous plants. In recent decades, Medicago truncatula and Glysine max have emerged as rising stars in the field of model plants, attracting increasing attention and interest from plant scientists. This Special Issue, titled "The Development and Evolution of Legumes", will focus on various aspects of legume research, including development, genetics, genomics, breeding, evolution, and biological functions. We anticipate that the manuscripts submitted to this Special Issue will offer valuable insights into the agricultural utilization and ecological significance of legumes.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
