Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

One definition of the Internet of Things (IoT) is that it is a dynamic global network infrastructure with self-configuring capabilities, based on standard and interoperable communication protocols, where physical and virtual “things” have identities, physical attributes, and virtual personalities and use intelligent interfaces, and are seamlessly integrated into the information network. This vision is the subject of many research efforts world-wide, and is seen as the next step beyond the Internet, with a range of different application domains, including but not limited to smart cities, the smart grid, smart healthcare, smart transportation, etc. Realizing this vision requires progress in a number of research domains, ranging from (Radio-Frequency IDentification) RFID and (wireless) sensor networks via distributed processing, cloud computing and content-based routing, to concepts of self-organizing networking, semantic technologies, and real-time big-data analytics.

For this Special Issue, we are interested in papers that emphasize the potential contributions and challenges for Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) in realizing the IoT vision. We especially encourage research papers in the following areas:

  • Experience with deploying WSN for one of the IoT application domains, case studies  and testbeds
  • Data management: real-time collection and analysis of sensor data
  • Scalability of WSN to city scale and beyond
  • Unique WSN challenges in the IoT
  • Self-configuration/software-defined WSN
  • Seamless integration of WSN into a global information network
  • Network architecture, deployment/requirement, data storage, etc.
  • Sensor networking protocols for IoT
  • WSN security for IoT
  • Energy management

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Sensor and Actuator Networks is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2000 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
