Personalized medicine is reshaping urologic surgery by integrating genomic and molecular profiling, advanced imaging, biomarker-driven risk stratification and machine‑learning decision tools to tailor prevention, diagnostics and therapy to each patient’s unique biology and anatomy. In Urological Oncology, precision medicine includes genomic and transcriptomic profiling to identify actionable mutations and molecular subtypes; liquid biopsies (ctDNA, circulating tumor cells and urine biomarkers) for dynamic surveillance and minimal‑residual‑disease detection; proteomic and metabolomic signatures to refine risk stratification; and immunogenomic markers to predict response to checkpoint inhibitors and other immune therapies. Concerning Urological Surgery, it uses intraoperative molecular imaging (fluorescence and PET probes) to improve tumor localization, margin assessment and nerve‑sparing, device selection and tuning for robotic or laparoscopic platforms based on body habitus and pathology and perioperative precision strategies
This Special Issue seeks to accelerate translation of precision approaches into surgical practice, emphasizing studies that demonstrate clinical utility, feasibility, cost‑effectiveness and ethical stewardship.
We welcome high-quality original articles, systematic reviews, meta-analyses and other types of research addressing topics such as molecularly guided surgical planning, intraoperative and perioperative strategies informed by tumor biology (including targeted neoadjuvant and adjuvant therapies) and the optimization of robotic, laparoscopic, image‑guided and other minimally invasive interventions for individualized anatomy and disease phenotype. Submissions that evaluate implementation in routine practice—workflow integration, health‑economic analyses, patient outcomes, disparities and access, informed consent for genomic data use and regulatory or privacy considerations—are particularly encouraged. Together, these contributions will map a pragmatic path for bringing precision urologic surgery from bench and imaging suite to the bedside.
We also invite work that explores multidisciplinary care models, clinician and patient education and real‑world evidence on long‑term outcomes and quality of life. Studies on scalable technologies, equitable deployment across diverse healthcare settings and strategies to mitigate bias in AI and genomic interpretation will be especially valuable. By highlighting translational science alongside practical implementation and policy implications, this Special Issue aims to define standards and catalyze adoption of personalized strategies that improve safety, effectiveness and patient‑centered care in urologic surgery.
