Systemic Autoinflammatory Diseases—Clinical Rheumatic Challenges: 3rd Edition

Dear Colleagues,

Autoinflammation is an important new field for clinical and experimental rheumatology. In fact, it has renewed and intensified the interaction and exchange of knowledge between experts as well as practitioners for pediatric and adult diseases. Not only has the number of described entities and affected patients gradually increased, but associated organ manifestations and complications have also been characterized in more detail. Based on the underlying mechanisms, target therapies nowadays include cytokine inhibitors for IL-1ß, IL-6, interferon-, and TNF-alpha. In the near future, we expect to improve management further by using novel or improved international classification criteria as well as established outcome measures. This will facilitate novel approaches and clinical trials. Several already active international registers will provide us with long-term data for efficacy and safety.

Carrying on from the success of the first Edition (https://www.mdpi.com/journal/jcm/special_issues/Systemic_Autoinflammatory_Diseases) and second edition (https://www.mdpi.com/journal/jcm/special_issues/98BQ1KNK96), the Special Issue entitled “Systemic Autoinflammatory Diseases—Clinical Rheumatic Challenges Series 3” of the Journal of Clinical Medicine is now open for submissions. This Special Issue welcomes all types of papers on the broad spectrum of the clinical characteristics, prognosis, pathophysiology, and treatment of autoinflammatory diseases. The goal of this Special Issue is to further raise awareness of autoinflammatory processes and to better separate them from well-established autoimmune diseases. It is clear that we have entered a new age in this complex field, as rheumatology is increasingly linked to immunology.
