Topics Webinar | EO&GEO Series: GIS in the Management of Sustainable and Smart Cities

Cities are essential for human living and world development. Over 56% of the world’s population live in cities, and about 80% of global GDP is generated in cities. In the past decades, geographical information science (GIS) has demonstrated a strong capability in spatial and temporal data, methods, tools, applications, and integration with other advanced technologies for achieving smart cities and sustainable development. GIS benefits the management of both natural environments, such as vegetation, water, air, soil, climate, and land, and the built environment, including buildings, infrastructure, and their interactions with human movement and natural environments.

In this webinar, we invite two active researchers in GIScience, remote sensing, and smart cities fields to share their studies about GIS in the management of sustainable and smart cities.

The following experts will be present and talk:

  • Dr. Yongze Song, School of Design and the Built Environment, Curtin University, Bentley, WA, Australia
  • Dr. Cheolhee Yoo, Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong SAR
  • Dr. Linlin You, School of Intelligent Systems Engineering, Sun Yat-sen University, China
  • Dr. Bing Liu, Chair of Cartography, Technical University of Munich, Germany; BYD Group, China
