Feed Additives in Fish and Shellfish Farming

Special Issue Information

Dear colleagues,

Intensive aquaculture contributes to water quality deterioration and environmental pollution, thereby impeding the sustainable growth of the aquaculture industry. The deterioration of water quality intensifies stress responses among farmed species and promotes disease outbreaks. Furthermore, the excessive use of antibiotics and chemical therapeutics fosters the development of drug-resistant pathogens, endangering both aquatic animal and human health. Consequently, identifying efficient, safe, and eco-friendly novel feed additives to replace chemicals and antibiotics is essential for overcoming critical constraints in aquaculture development.

This Special Issue seeks to compile the latest research on sustainable and health-promoting feed additives for fish and shellfish, establishing a foundation for developing alternatives to antibiotics. Submissions may take the form of original research, full or mini-reviews, and perspectives on topics including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Disease-resistant feed additives;
  • Anti-stress feed additives;
  • Nutritional mechanisms of feed additives;
  • Evaluation and application of feed additives;
  • Development of novel feed additives.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
