Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The Guest Editor invites you to send applications to the Special Energies Edition entitled "Improvements of the Electricity Power System: 3rd Edition".

World turbulences with access to hydrocarbon energy resources are forcing the development of technologies related to obtaining energy from renewable sources in many countries around the world. These technologies are inextricably linked with the increasing use of rare earth metals in the creation of new and more perfect materials for processes related to energy production, transforming it into a different form and altering its storage method. Rising energy prices are forcing changes in the paradigms of the operation of power systems. In the global energy market, national power systems are starting to play a different role. Solutions such as virtual power plants (VPP) or power cooperatives are starting to be considered.

More and more activities in the energy sector are supported by artificial intelligence and machine learning. AI in the energy sector must meet the challenges of analyzing huge amounts of data in real time to optimize energy consumption and stabilize power grids. Another difficulty is the integration of renewable energy sources, the production of which is unstable and requires advanced predictive models for effective management. Additionally, AI must meet stringent safety and reliability standards to prevent failures and cyberattacks in critical energy infrastructure.

In this Special Issue of Energies, we would like to highlight the following issues:

  • Problems of the operation of power systems in the conditions of a raw material crisis;
  • Issues related to the functioning of renewable energy sources in the power system;
  • Hydrogen technologies;
  • The issue of energy storage;
  • Virtual Power Plants on the electricity market;
  • Issues related to the operation of local power systems;
  • Smart-Grid and Smart-Metering in the power system;
  • Material processing, functional materials, and rare earth metals;
  • Energy efficiency and energy saving;
  • Safe operation of systems and installations;
  • Optimization, forecasting, and IT software in power systems;
  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning in the Energy Economy.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue

  • Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
  • Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
  • Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
  • External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
  • e-Book format: Special Issues with more than 10 articles can be published as dedicated e-books, ensuring wide and rapid dissemination.
