AI-Powered Cyber Security: Intelligent Protection, Privacy Preservation and System Resilience
This special issue belongs to the section “Computer Science & Engineering“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The rapid integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) into electronic systems has fundamentally transformed the cybersecurity landscape. While AI enables more intelligent, automated, and scalable cyber defense mechanisms, it also empowers adversaries to launch sophisticated, adaptive, and stealthy cyber-attacks. These AI-powered threats pose significant risks to data security, user privacy, and the reliability of modern electronic infrastructures.
This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive forum for cutting-edge research on AI-powered cyber-attacks and defenses, with a strong emphasis on data privacy, system security, and trustworthy electronic systems. The Issue will bring researchers and practitioners together to explore novel attack methodologies, intelligent detection and mitigation techniques, privacy-preserving AI models, and secure system architectures.
The focus will be on both offensive and defensive perspectives, addressing vulnerabilities across hardware, firmware, software, networks, and cloud-edge-IoT ecosystems. Particular attention will be given to explainable, robust, and resilient AI techniques that can operate in real-world adversarial environments.
Topics:
- AI-driven malware, ransomware, and advanced persistent threats (APTs);
- Adversarial machine learning and attacks against AI-enabled systems;
- Intelligent intrusion detection and prevention using machine learning;
- AI-based anomaly detection for network, cloud, and IoT security;
- Privacy-preserving AI techniques (federated learning, differential privacy);
- Automated cyber threat intelligence and AI-assisted incident response;
- Secure and trustworthy AI models for security-critical electronic systems;
- Hardware- and firmware-level AI security mechanisms;
- Data protection, access control, and privacy risk mitigation using AI;
- Robust, explainable, and resilient AI methods for cyber defense.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
