Dear Colleagues,
The SITN-2019 workshop is an international event will be held in London, UK on August 19–22, 2019 and in parallel with the CollaborateCom 2019—15th EAI International Conference on Collaborative Computing: Networking, Applications and Worksharing. It provides a venue for international researchers and leading industry experts in IoT and cyber-security to establish future partnerships and research collaborations.
The SITN-2019 workshop aims to deliver the recent advances in securing Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructures for a smart society. The IoT presents unprecedented opportunities for building a smart society. Big data collected from numerous “Things”, connected to different interfaces and locations, facilitate smarter decision making and personalised services.
There is great hope attached to the anticipated benefits from IoT. Security and privacy, however, remain big challenges to overcome. Manufacturers are still shipping IoT devices with security flaws which put users or even the other parts of our connected cyber-world at risk. Those vulnerable IoT devices could easily be exploited to launch massive cyber attacks to other online services or IT infrastructures. The recent increasing engagement of machine learning technologies in smart society scenarios further introduce new security and privacy issues. Despite the fact that machine learning technologies could improve performance in many aspects of IoT-based services, potential problems could be introduced through the training process, as the technologies are vulnerable to well-crafted adversarial input samples. Machine learning models and parameters can be reverse-engineered, which results in the leakage of privacy violations and the disclosure of underlying algorithms. Thus, privacy, robustness, and security issues are challenging the movement towards a smart society.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to: Threat Models in Internet of Things, attack strategies for Internet of Things, security architectures, security in wireless sensor networks, reliable interactions with network services, system and data integrity, scalability and robustness for IoT, identity management in IoT, trustworthiness in IoT, secure operating systems, secure routing for IoT, privacy in IoT, adaptive security in IoT, secure IoT interactions, secure IoT architecture design, digital forensics for IoT, malware detection, intrusion detection and prevention systems for IoT, machine learning based security solutions for IoT, privacy issues for machining learning, attacks against machine learning, emerging threat models for machining learning, data privacy protection for machine learning, data poison issues for machine learning, security M2M communications for the smart society, and homomorphic computing in a smart society.
The authors of a number of selected full papers of high quality will be invited after the workshop to submit revised and extended versions of their originally accepted conference papers to this Special Issue of Information published by MDPI in open access. The selection of these best papers will be based on their ratings in the workshop review process, quality of the presentation during the workshop, and expected impact on the research community. Submitted papers should be extended to the size of regular research or review articles with a 50% extension of new results. All submitted papers will undergo our standard peer-review procedure. This call for papers, however, is also fully open to all who want to contribute by submitting a relevant research manuscript.
Accepted papers will be published in open access format in Information and collected together in this Special Issue website. We would like to publish the extended best papers of the conference with Article Processing Fees waived. Since the MDPI organizes the peer review, only if the papers receive all positive review reports will the publishing fees be waived. The "positive reports" mean no reject reports. If other papers are accepted with reject reports (in all rounds of peer review), they will be charged 50% of the Article Processing Fees.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Information is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
