Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
With the growing number of multilingual children attending early childhood education worldwide, translanguaging pedagogy has been used to support multilingual young children’s learning, development, and well-being. While there is increasing attention and a growing body of literature focusing on teachers’ translanguaging pedagogical practices in school settings, less is known about translanguaging in early childhood education contexts. This Special Issue aims to gather evidence on teachers’ practices and beliefs about translanguaging, as well as children’s participation in translanguaging practices with their teachers and peers. Research on these topics would provide valuable insights into supporting multilingualism and inclusion in early childhood education, helping to establish a strong foundation for children’s literacy and language development for future learning. This Special Issue welcomes submissions on, including but not limited to, the following themes:
- Teachers’ pedagogical practices of translanguaging
- Teachers’ perspectives and beliefs about translanguaging
- Children's translanguaging practices with teachers
- Children's translanguaging practices with peers
- Children’s views and perspectives about translanguaging
- Barriers and challenges of employing translanguaging pedagogy
