Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In this Special Issue, we propose a critical and multidimensional analysis of the intersection between education, media, digitization, public policies, and social development. In an era of accelerated digital transformation, it is imperative to examine how these domains interact synergistically or conflictually to shape the opportunities and challenges of the post-digital society. We seek theoretical and empirical contributions exploring, among other aspects, the role of digital media, social networks, and audiovisual productions in learning ecosystems; the design, implementation, and evaluation of public policies aimed at closing digital and educational divides; the influence of media and information literacy on civic participation; and the aggregate impact of these interactions on indicators of social development, such as equity, inclusion, and cultural capital. The goal is to generate an integrative academic discourse that transcends isolated analyses, offering researchers, policymakers, and educators a comprehensive framework to understand and act within this complex landscape, thereby promoting social transformation towards more just and democratic environments.

We welcome papers centered on the five topics (thematic lines) below:

  • Integrated Public Policies: the design and evaluation of regulatory frameworks that articulate digital education, media access, and social development goals in the post-digital era.
  • Pedagogies and Digital Environments: educational innovations and critical literacy in ecosystems dominated by social networks and audiovisual productions.
  • Inequalities and Divides: analysis of the intersection between digital exclusion, pre-existing educational inequalities, and their impact on social development.
  • Citizen Participation and Digital Culture: the role of education and interactive and audiovisual media in shaping an informed, critical, and participatory citizenry.
  • Impact Assessment: metrics and longitudinal studies on the combined effect of digital/educational programs on well-being and social cohesion indicators.
