Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The rapid evolution of quantum machine learning is opening new opportunities for advancing medical image and biomedical signal processing in intelligent healthcare systems. This Special Issue aims to gather recent theoretical and applied research exploring the integration of quantum computing techniques with artificial intelligence methods for medical diagnosis, prognosis, and clinical decision support. The issue focuses on innovative methodologies combining quantum algorithms, variational quantum circuits, hybrid quantum–classical models, and quantum-inspired learning approaches with medical imaging modalities such as MRI, CT, PET, ultrasound, histopathology, and radiomics, as well as biomedical signals including ECG, EEG, EMG, and multimodal physiological data.

Contributions addressing feature extraction, dimensionality reduction, classification, segmentation, clustering, explainability, optimization, and generative modeling are especially encouraged. The Special Issue also welcomes studies investigating practical implementations on noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) devices, reproducibility challenges, benchmarking against classical deep learning approaches, and the clinical translation of QML systems in medical diagnosis.

By bringing together researchers from quantum computing, machine learning, biomedical engineering, and medical imaging communities, this issue seeks to provide a comprehensive overview on the current state, challenges, and future directions of QML technologies for next-generation precision diagnostics and personalized medicine.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Diagnostics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
