Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Endoscopy has progressed from a rudimentary visual tool to an indispensable pillar of gastrointestinal (GI) diagnostics and therapy. With improvements in optics, resolution, and device design, the field has continuously pushed the boundaries of clinical capability. Today, we stand at the threshold of a new era, shaped by the integration of advanced imaging techniques, digital innovation, and artificial intelligence. From high-definition and image-enhanced endoscopy to capsule-based diagnostics and AI-assisted lesion detection, modern endoscopy is delivering greater precision, standardization, and efficiency than ever before. Recent advances are also transforming therapeutic endoscopy, expanding its role beyond diagnosis to real-time intervention. Meanwhile, the incorporation of data-driven tools, automated analysis, and robotic systems is enhancing procedural outcomes and clinician decision-making.

This Special Issue of Diagnostics will capture the momentum of these technological developments and provide a platform for original research, reviews, clinical studies, technical innovations, and expert insights. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • AI-supported detection, classification, and workflow in endoscopy;
  • Innovations in capsule and device-assisted endoscopy;
  • Image enhancement technologies and real-time analytics;
  • Therapeutic endoscopic advances and new instrumentation;
  • Integration of digital tools and automation into clinical practice;
  • Perspectives on training, quality, and standardization;
  • Ethical and regulatory considerations in emerging technologies.

We invite contributions that reflect the broadening scope and clinical impact of modern endoscopy and look forward to showcasing work that defines this new era in GI diagnostics.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Diagnostics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
