Dear Colleagues,
Hepatobiliary and pancreatic (HPB) diseases are undergoing a profound transformation driven by rapid advances in imaging, computation, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and minimally invasive therapies. Traditional diagnostic and therapeutic paradigms are evolving toward a new era of computer-assisted surgery, in which clinical decision-making is increasingly supported by digital technologies while remaining firmly grounded in human expertise and judgment.
This Special Issue aims to present the latest developments across the entire spectrum of HPB diagnosis and management, with particular emphasis on the three major pillars of computer-assisted surgery: image-guided surgery, artificial intelligence, and robotic technologies. We welcome contributions that address advanced imaging, intraoperative navigation, augmented reality, surgical planning, image fusion, computer vision, machine learning, predictive analytics, digital twins, automation, telesurgery, and intelligent robotic systems, as well as innovations in laparoscopic, robotic, endoscopic, percutaneous, and hybrid procedures.
This Special Issue additionally seeks to explore the evolving relationship between technology and the physician. While AI and automation are revolutionizing surgical practice, they do not replace the essential human attributes of clinical reasoning, ethical judgment, creativity, communication, and responsibility. The future of HPB care will depend not only on increasingly sophisticated technologies but also on the ability of clinicians to integrate these tools thoughtfully into patient-centered decision-making.
We welcome original research, systematic reviews, technical reports, and expert perspectives that contribute to shaping the future of precision, innovation, and multidisciplinary care in hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Diagnostics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
