Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Anesthesiology has evolved far beyond the intraoperative delivery of hypnosis and analgesia; it now spans the entire perioperative continuum, where accurate diagnosis and timely risk stratification largely determine patient outcomes. Advances in point-of-care ultrasound, processed electroencephalography, hemodynamic and depth-of-anesthesia monitoring, biomarker profiling, and artificial intelligence-assisted prediction are transforming how anesthesiologists identify, quantify, and manage perioperative risk. These diagnostic innovations increasingly guide individualized management—from difficult-airway assessment and goal-directed fluid therapy to the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting, delirium, and organ injury.

This Special Issue aims to gather high-quality work that bridges diagnostic technology and clinical management across the perioperative period, in line with the diagnostic focus of Diagnostics. We welcome contributions that translate emerging tools into measurable improvements in patient safety and quality of care.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following: perioperative point-of-care ultrasound; airway and difficult-intubation assessment; neuro- and depth-of-anesthesia monitoring; hemodynamic monitoring and goal-directed therapy; biomarkers of perioperative risk; AI/machine-learning diagnostics; and enhanced recovery and complication prediction.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Diagnostics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
