Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Tribocorrosion is a complex degradation process arising from the interaction of mechanical wear and electrochemical corrosion, and it remains a major challenge in the reliable use of metallic materials in marine, biomedical, chemical-processing, and energy-related systems. In surface engineering, coating design and alloy development have created new opportunities to improve durability under wear–corrosion conditions. However, it still depends strongly on coating, interface stability, passive film behavior, and environmental chemistry.

This Special Issue will focus on surface-engineered metallic coatings and advanced alloy systems specifically designed for tribo-corrosive environments. The aim is to provide a platform for high-quality contributions that advance the understanding of structure–property relationships, testing methodologies, and performance optimization under mechanical and corrosive conditions.

Topics of interest include tribo-corrosion mechanisms in metallic coatings and alloys; PVD, CVD, thermal spray, cladding, laser-processed, electrodeposited metallic coatings; in situ and electrochemical methods for tribo-corrosion characterization; wear in saline, acidic, alkaline, and body-fluid-like media; and material design strategies for marine, biomedical, and energy applications.

The Special Issue welcomes original research and critical review articles that offer mechanistic insight, robust experimental evaluation, and clear links between material design and service performance.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Coatings is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
