Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Corrosion remains one of the most significant challenges in civil engineering, particularly for infrastructure exposed to harsh environmental conditions. Corrosion-resistant coatings play a crucial role in protecting materials, extending the longevity of structures, and ensuring the safety and cost-effectiveness of engineering projects. This Special Issue aims to present the latest research and innovations in corrosion-resistant coatings, with a specific focus on their applications in civil engineering.

We invite original papers on a broad range of topics related to corrosion-resistant coatings in civil engineering, including but not limited to:

  • Development and Performance of Corrosion-Resistant Coatings: Innovative coatings, including high-performance inorganic coatings, hybrid materials, and nanostructured coatings, are designed for enhanced corrosion resistance.
  • Application of Coatings on Steel, Concrete, and Other Materials: Coatings for reinforcement bars, steel structures, pipelines, bridges, and other critical components in civil engineering.
  • Durability and Long-Term Performance: Assessment and modeling of the durability of corrosion-resistant coatings under various environmental conditions, including marine, industrial, and aggressive urban atmospheres.
  • Smart Coatings and Self-Healing Technologies: Emerging self-healing coatings, sensors, and intelligent coatings that offer real-time corrosion monitoring and self-repairing capabilities.
  • Environmental and Sustainability Considerations: Eco-friendly corrosion protection methods, including non-toxic coatings, bio-based coatings, and coatings that contribute to sustainability in construction practices.
  • Advancements in Coating Application Techniques: Innovative methods for applying corrosion-resistant coatings, such as electrochemical deposition, plasma spraying, and 3D printing of coatings.
  • Case Studies and Real-World Applications: Successful case studies of corrosion-resistant coatings in real-world civil engineering projects, their performance analysis, and lessons learned.

This Special Issue aims to highlight the latest developments and innovations in corrosion-resistant coating technologies in civil engineering, sharing cutting-edge research and practical applications and providing valuable insights for improving the long-term durability and corrosion resistance of engineering structures.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Coatings is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
