Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Tumor development and progression are driven by diverse molecular alterations that affect gene regulation, signaling pathways, metabolism, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment. Advances in genomic, transcriptomic, epigenetic, and proteomic technologies have enabled detailed molecular profiling of both solid and hematologic malignancies, revealing substantial biological heterogeneity within and across tumor types. These discoveries have provided critical insights into tumorigenesis and have accelerated the identification of diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers that inform clinical management.

Despite significant progress, important challenges remain in translating molecular findings into clinically actionable diagnostics. Further investigation is needed to clarify how specific molecular characteristics distinguish tumor subtypes, predict disease behavior, and guide therapeutic decision‑making. In particular, comparative analyses of tumor tissues, liquid biopsies, and emerging multiplex platforms are essential to improve early detection, risk stratification, and treatment monitoring.

This Special Issue welcomes original research articles and reviews focusing on the molecular characteristics and diagnostic biomarkers of tumors. Potential topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Genomic, epigenetic, transcriptomic, and proteomic alterations in human tumors
  • Molecular classification of tumors and its diagnostic and clinical relevance
  • Discovery and validation of tissue‑based and liquid biopsy biomarkers
  • Tumor microenvironment signatures and immune‑related diagnostic markers
  • Emerging technologies and platforms for molecular tumor diagnostics

We hope this Special Issue will provide a comprehensive overview of current advancements and promote the integration of molecular insights into precision oncology.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Current Issues in Molecular Biology is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2200 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
