Advances in Reactive Flow: Coupled Flow Processes in Porous Media and Materials

Reactive flow in pipes and porous media is associated with processes that affect the flow conditions. In pipes, such processes include clogging by minerals or hydrates, erosion, and changes in the fluids’ ability to carry particles. There is also relevance to biology regarding the flow of blood and the transport of medicine in living organisms. In porous media flow, relevant processes include scaling of minerals and permeability changes, adsorption, surface area changes, weakening of the loadbearing structure followed by compaction, and changes in wettability that can lead to enhanced oil recovery. Understanding how reactive fluids interact with the media they flow through under representative conditions is essential to optimize operating constraints, fluid composition, and material properties. Hence, industry and academia have long paid attention to such systems, but the complex nature of these systems leaves this field with many unanswered questions.

I would like to invite you to submit full papers for publication in a Special Issue of ChemEngineering on the topic of “Advances in Reactive Flow: Coupled Flow Processes in Porous Media and Materials”. This Special Issue will focus on reactive flow processes where chemical interactions lead to changes in the flow properties of the fluids or in the medium where the flow occurs. Advanced flow processes that impact the distribution of reactive flow but are not coupled to the reactions will also be considered. Theoretical, experimental, and review articles are welcomed for this Special Issue.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
